Anyone else think Stephen Hodge may be the guy to replace Burnet in the nickle? Jason Williams may be too "raw" to cover guys for the time being.

Word.

I interviewed his position coach at TCU for DCF Radio Monday Night and he doesn't think Hodge will have a problem playing LB at all.

I think it may be a case where we have two LB's on the Nickel.

One being Hodge as that hybrid S/LB that we wanted to see Roy thrive at.

*New special teams coach Joe DeCamillis coaches with a ton of enthusiasm. At one point during the backpedaling drill, he was bouncing around and throwing jabs. "We want to be like a boxer, on our toes!"

That's a bit premature considering that Mickens hasn't even made the team yet.

IMHO, Jenkins will be more than fine. He will be a starting CB for us for a long time. Starting this coming season. Even though Scandrick showed a little more last season, Jenkins has higher potential. It was Scandrick the staff considered moving to a safety type position.

Regardless, both Jenkins and Scandrick should be cornerstones (pun intended) of our secondary for a long time. I just hope one of the rookies is good enough to get in on the mix. Because it's Alan Ball who I don't have any faith in. You need at least 3 good corners in this league, as 3 will play alot. You need a 4th who can play too, in case of injury or for the dime packages. Right now, we have 3.

I totally agree with you on this. I don't see Ball making the roster this year. I we will run 5 CBs.............Newman..Jenkins.Scandrick....Mickens and D. Smith playing both S and CB.

And who might the second linebacker on the nickel be?

I'd love to see fellow rookie Jason Williams secure a third down role alongside Stephen Hodge. I'm sure the coaches would be hesitant to line up two rookies on the nickel together, especially early in the season, but both should give the defense the speed and coverage ability needed to play on passing downs.

I think we got a new Newman on the team and his name is Mike Mickens. I'd put Newman and Mickens both on islands covering their guy.

Yessir. Not to mention an undrafted FA QB who throws rainbows and a 4th round QB who wasn't the starting QB his last year in college either. I'll wait till they make the team and go through a mini camp against Tony Romo, RW and JW before I even call them depth.

Mike Mickens is fine, Deangelo Smith rolled his ankle Saturday afternoon but waived trainers off.
