The job should be Henrys to lose, only if he is struggling should Jones be given a look in as a starter. Henry maybe playing sometime at safety could give Adam more playing time. Then again Newman and Henry could both get hurt and Jones and Jenkins would step in.

I think Henry will be playing FS eventually.I also have a feeling RW is going to get traded.

Who ever is playing better should start - PERIOD. Unless we've been to every practice, none of us know at this point. Let the chips all fall where they may.

Newman and ADAM Jones should be the starters.

  • Youth
  • Caliber
  • The fracken reason why we took the chance on him
  • Jerry will want the BIG NAME ALL STAR on the field

It will still come down to performance. I don't care if Adam Jones is a big name the bottom line is making plays. If he does that then he earned the job but what if Jenkins proves to be even better? We did not draft him to sit on a bench that is why I think in the end the starter will be the guys who go out and earns it not who has the big name. Dallas is not selling the ranch for Jones and I don't think he is ensured of anything right now.

Yes... yes... understood... but Jerry is back at the helm... remember lol

ADAM will be starting no later than a 4-5 games into the season.... I believe sooner than that...

If those are the qualifications I think Mike Jenkins might want some consideration as well.

Isn't it amazing that we spent a 1st round pick on a guy 60 days ago and he isn't even a part of the discussion? Its great really. Think about our talent level at CB vs... lets say... maybe 8 years ago?

Only if Henry gets hurt, should Jones start IMO. I've never watched Adam Jones in a game, but Henry has the best ball skills AND HANDS of ANY defensive back on our roster, Jones and rookies excluded.

So the short answer is NO Jones should not start, IMO, from a strictly football perspective. Oh yeah, pending he gets reinstated, that is.

The other thing is, I'm all about giving guys second (or in this case, 6th, 7th, or is it 8th) chances, but in my gut I don't trust him. This guy is just one of those guys who doesn't get it. And towards the end of the year, after exercising massive restraint all year long, I just have this nag in my gut he'll be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I base this primarily on his own comments where he really didn't seem to say his troubles were his choices, and also for his reluctance to say he was through with strip clubs forever. If most people ended up in one place that repeatedly endangered their livelihood, they would at least publicly say "I'm through with those places forever..." He can't even do that.

No doubt... I want the kid in there if he can play... but chances are that youth & experience & football savy(ADAM) probably wins out.

Pacman didn't come to be Henry's caddie. Henry is a good player, but he hasn't lived up to his high salary. On the other hand, Adam Jones was in the process of becoming an elite player before his off the field trouble.

It isn't "should" he start over Henry. It is "when", and "when" will be game one, imo.

Pacman vs Henry isn't even close. I think Jones could be a little rusty and still start over him.

Adam Jones is an impact player. I knew he either flat out won or really helped the Titans win about 3 games (in 2006) by making huge plays. I went back and looked them up. This is why it is only a matter of "when" and not "should".

A. Jones returns a punt 53 yards for a TD in a 28-22 win over Houston.

He took the punt to the house in the fourth quarter and was the difference in the game.

A. Jones returns a punt 90 yards for a TD against the Eagles in the 3rd quarter. He breaks open a 17-6 game. Game over.

A. Jones picks off Eli Manning twice on deep throws in the fourth quarter. His leaping pick of Manning (the second one) helps put the final nails in the Giants' coffin. (the game winning field goal) The two picks give the Titans a much needed short field and leads to 10 points in a 24-21 game won by Tennessee. Pacman's first pick leads to a TD and ignites the comeback.

Pacman's 83 yard interception return for a TD and his 70 yard kickoff return against Jacksonville doom the Jaguars. Pacman accounts for 10 points in a Titans 7 point win.

Pacman's pass break-up in the endzone saves a 24-17 win against the Jaguars.

You can make a strong case that Adam Jones won three games by himself. He was one of the top few stars of the game for Tennessee, at least, in those three games (Houston, Giants, and Jacksonville). Those type of games are game ball or MVP performances. Furthermore, two of the teams were in his division, and one of them is our most hated rival.

Pacman is an impact player, and Jerry didn't bring him to Dallas to be Henry's caddie, imo. The player is too talented, and the team hasn't won a playoff game since this run started in 2005. He is the type of player who can put you over the hump when it comes to just winning a playoff game. Jones was the sixth pick of the draft. He will force quarterbacks to look Newman's way more. When they do, they will pay. Throw in coverage and get picked or hold it and get destroyed.

I really like Henry especially against bigger WR's like Plaxico. In a perfect world, I'd rather see Jones lining-up against super-smurfs like Santana Moss.

I think Henry gets a raw deal from a lot of fans.... It seems like many people have forgotten that Henry lead our team in interceptions (6 Ints, 5th in the NFL), despite only starting 10 games...

I feel like Henry has earned his starting role. Jones will really have to impress me, for me to feel that he deserves Henry's spot...

That depends

Is he a better player on the field than Anthony Henry? If through the course of training camp the answer becomes "yes", then he should absolutly start. If not, then he should be the nickelback.

Pretty simple, really

Adam Jones gave the right answer

"I got a lot of work to go," he said. "When I get there, we'll see. But I got a lot of work to go to get back to where I want to be. I'm just gonna keep working hard and see where it plays out after camp."

That's key right there. It takes a while before a player can get back to game shape. I'm thinking mid season or later. Plus another thing to factor in is what if Henry finally kicks the injury bug and has a career year.

To quote the Tuna, "I wouldn't anoint him starter just yet."

Who is to say Jenkins will not earn the spot?

Dang, son. Why you go say something ridiculous like that?
Do your parents know you are saying things like that?
You better not be getting in the liquor cabinet you little monkey!

Really, there is enough drama and talent without getting little Jenkins into the mix. Let the kid alone and let him be a rookie.

Or else, why did the Cowboys want him?

It's about putting the best players on the field to win; and if they were willing to take the risk to sign him, then they should be willing to take the risk to play him.

And you used to be such a pompous, arrogant knowit-all . . . wait, oh, I thought you were someone else.
Never mind.

I really don't think that they will just hand over the job to Jones. They might if he is truely that much better than Henry. But Henry is very good in his own right so I believe that he will keep his starting job...right up until he is injured again around mid-season :(
