We really don't know how much or if Marion Barber even practiced on Wednesday. We can say he was in shoulder pads and did some light running in pat-and-go during the media availability.
Could it have been just a show to get everybody - namely Carolina - to believe Barber and his quadriceps inury will be fine for Monday? Sure. We'll know more today when the Cowboys have to file an injury report with the league, but as the New York Jets proved last year with Brett Favre those aren't very reliable.
Let's go on the assumption Barber doesn't play vs. the Panthers or plays a little. What would the Cowboys miss?
A lot. And a little.
"Obviously I'm not going to downplay what Marion brings to the table but I think the way he imposes his will and the way he plays not only helps your team but carries over to the other guys," tight end Jason Witten said. "You look at Felix [Jones] and Tashard [Choice], they're both talented guys and that's as deep as we are at any position. I think you've seen it with those guys. They understand the challenge there and embrace those roles."
Jones hasn't had more than nine carries in a game in his career, but there is a sense of anticipation every time the ball is in his hands.
"It just seems like something good always happens," Witten said. "You can miss blocks and he still makes guys miss. He's that kind of runner that can take it the distance at any point and time he gets the ball."
