Neighbors say Strahan headed east

LOUIS DeLUCA / DMN

The New York Daily News snooped around Michael Strahan's neighborhood in California to try to figure out if the Giants' divorced defensive end will play against the Cowboys.

The manager of Strahan's favorite juice bar hasn't seen Strahan in a while, so that must mean he's headed back to the East Coast. It'll be a shocker if Strahan doesn't suit up for the season opener.

The reporter apparently didn't ask the manager the most important question: Does Strahan drink his smoothies through a straw placed between his front teeth?

Other developments around the NFC East:

Eagles: Backup QB A.J. Feeley broke a bone in his left (non-throwing) hand. ... Donovan McNabb is completely healthy. How long will that last?

Giants: The Giants made it though their final preseason game without suffering any significant injuries. ... Eli Manning looked good against the Patriots' scrubs.

Commanders: Is Joe Gibbs still a good coach? ... QB Jason Campbell returned from a knee injury to lead a scoring drive against the Jags. Campbell and the rest of the starters were on the bench by the second quarter.

With a coach like Coughlin, a hardline no nonsense kind of guy, I dont see any way he allows him to play week 1. He missed all of training camp. Best case scenario is he plays on pass rush situations and even with that I cant picture Strahan being in much better than avearge shape.

Game is in Dallas.
Still makes sense... the title of the article doesn't, but it's likely Strahan will travel to Dallas (from New York) with the team.

I agree about Gap Tooth not starting and playing sparingly the first game.
Strahan did not want to sweat during training camp and being a veteran he knows how to work the system, i.e. staying out of camp due to "injury" or financial reasons. But he needs the money -- big time -- so he WILL be back.
LOL it would be so great if Coughlin just cut him, but he won't.:)

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- A seemingly frustrated coach Tom Coughlin is taking the approach that seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan is not going to play for the New York Giants this season.

"I have to, I have to," Coughlin said Friday when asked about Strahan's now five-week-plus holdout. "That's been the way, not by choice, by necessity. Again, we'll work with the guys that are here."

What Coughlin said Friday wasn't new. The veteran coach has been emphatic that he would work with the players at training camp while the 35-year-old Strahan decided whether to play a 15th season or to retire.

However, Coughlin seemed a little more upset that the NFL's active leader in sacks (132½) was still mulling a decision 36 days after training camp opened and with the season opener at Dallas a little more than a week away.

The Giants have to make their final cut to the 53-man roster on Saturday.

While Strahan is on the reserve-did not report list and will not count on the final roster, Coughlin insists that not knowing what he intends to do will affect who the Giants keep on both their roster and practice squad.

"He (Strahan) is very well aware of that," Coughlin said, adding that general manager Jerry Reese has relayed those concerns to both the player and Tony Agnone, his agent.

Reese had no comment on Friday. Agnone did not return an e-mail left by The Associated Press.

If Strahan decides over the Labor Day weekend to play, he would have four practices to get ready for Dallas. Third-year-man Justin Tuck is starting in his left defensive end spot and has played well in preseason games.

Coughlin would not speculate whether Strahan would play in the opener under those circumstances.

Fellow defensive end Osi Umenyiora had talked with Strahan a number of times during his holdout. However, he is now concentrating on the season.

"I am not going to call him any more about that thing," Umenyiora said. "I'm done talking to him about that situation. If he is here, we'll be happy. If not, we wish him the best as far as his other career goes."

Strahan has talked about going into television if he retires.

Umenyiora added that he is not frustrated with his buddy. But he said that the longer the holdout continues, the less he knows what to expect.

"He is making a very big decision right now," Umenyiora said. "I don't want to stress him with: 'When are you coming back? When are you coming back?"

The Giants have fined Strahan $14,288 for each day of his holdout. His fine total is now $514,368. If he retires, he would not have to pay the fine.<

I guess the same can be said of Ellis If he decides to play the first game. And Strahan is much more talented than Ellis.

1/2 million dollars??? That's just plain nuts. Someone should kick Strahan in the head for that nonsense.

Schefter: Strahan to end holdout, report to Giants on Monday
NFL.com Wire Reports

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After mulling retirement the entire offseason, defensive end Michael Strahan has decided to play for the Giants this season, the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports.

Shefter said Strahan will report to Giants camp on Monday.

Earlier Friday, a seemingly frustrated coach Tom Coughlin was taking the approach that the seven-time Pro Bowl player was not going to return to the Giants for his 15th season, but instead retire.

"I have to, I have to," Coughlin said Friday morning when asked about Strahan's five-week-plus holdout. "That's been the way, not by choice, by necessity. Again, we'll work with the guys that are here."

According to ESPN, he reached a settlement about the fines.

That's a blessing in disquise. Feeley SUCKS with gusto.

Kolb, even as a rookie, is better then Feeley IMO.

That's a shame. I wonder how the settlement was justified? If he was clearly missing practices because of his own ego, he should be made an example of and force him to pay the fine.

I can't wait for Strahan to follow Tiki out of the NFL. They have gotten the best of us over the years. And I hate the Giants as much if not more than Skins and Eagles......
