I haven't been on this board much lately but I swear this guy was getting bashed on here like last week? Bad character and bad wonderlic and he was slipping into the 2nd? Or am I just imagining that I read that from more than a few folks?

You are right. There are many on this board who would not touch Meriweather with a 10 foot pole. I started a thread about him last week, and it was evident many feel he is a thug and does not have good character.

I love Meriweather and his game. Talent wise he is easily a top 20 pick, probably higher, I would be shocked if he is not drafted in the first round.
Us fans have been begging for the ball hawking FS for years now, HE IS THAT ANSWER. Meriweather could take this secondary to a new level IMO. yes i think he is that good.

From a couple of reoprts on NFL network I heard he has done very well on interviews, and his College coaches swear by his character.

I like several players at #22 and Meriweather is definetly one of them.

I'd crap my pants if we used a #1 on any safety this year.

We're trying to find out about Watkins and the FA we signed...please don't waste a #1 pick on another safety.

If we're going to go DB, then make it a freakin' CB since Glenn is getting older and Henry hasn't played as well recently and the backups aren't viewed as starters...we need a CB...at least then we could move Henry to FS if neither of the other two step up and prolong his own career.

Personally...I want either Houston, CB, one of the WR's, or a pass rusher (Moss or Spencer). If we can't get one of them, then trade down.
I thought "I'd crap my pants" was now vernacular for "I'd be very happy." Did I miss a memo? We need to all get on the same scatalogical page here or there will be confusion and confusion leads to havoc and havoc leads to alcohol and alcohol leads to Leotis.

After watching that Yahoo highlight video, the thing I kept noticing is that he celebrates after every play be it a tackle, pick or just a hard hit and the WR caught the ball.

I think Hamlin/Watkins will be fine at FS this year.

:laugh2: I understand how you can associate this type of thing with a particular attitude or lifestyle, but come on! Celebrations shouldn't discredit a player.

On the other hand, we could continue to draft these Parcells guys with no emotion at all and continue to fall apart when it really matters, all over again.

Sometimes, emotions are important in sports

1) He popped off a round at somebody who apparently shot and wounded a buddy of his... now, I have no problem with him defending himself, but of course this means he was running around with a concealed weapon...

Even if he had a permit for it, I don't want players who live the kind of life where they HAVE to run around armed... this tells me that he makes a habit of hanging out in some very bad places, and associates with some very bad people...
Wow......unbelievable. Is this the year 2007? Stereotyping101

2) We all SAW him stomp that player in the head as he was laying on the ground; there's no "blowing that out of proportion", it really happened... he's a junior grade Albert Haynesworth, and I'll bet you were REALLY down on Haynesworth when he raked his cleats over Gurode's face... if so, how is what Merriweather did any different?? Both involved completely gutless assaults on a prone, helpless opponent who wasn't posing ANYBODY any threat...

Merriweather is a suspension waiting to happen, just another thug from the U... if Jerry is serious about what he said about staying away from character problems this year, he HAS to stay away from Brandon... conversely, if he does draft this thug, then we'll know that he doesn't give ANY consideration to character issues after all...

Based on your stereotyping expertise I am surprised you couldn't forsee Shawne Merriman as a "suspension waiting to happen" when you were clearly in favor of drafting the player 2 years ago

Wow. Landry is a safety. He'd get eaten alive if he had to matchup against WRs regularly. No way in hell could he play CB. He's way too big and doesn't turn anywhere near good enough to play CB.

I wasn't saying he's a CB. He can play in the slot and the reason he's regarded as the best safety in the draft is because of his speed and coverage abilities.

He is supposed to be able to drop into the slot and play well. That's the story although we won't know for a year or so if that's the real case or not.

I doubt we could get two future ones for our current pick, if that's what you mean. Just one extra, like the Buffalo trade. Jerry says he has two offers on the table that he's considering the opportunity is there -- unless he's fibbing.

If you trade and drop out of the first round, you get, presumably, a good solid WR in the 2nd round, where value is. It's definitely worth considering.

I understand that. I assumed we were talking about giving up our number one in 2007 for someone elses number one in 2008 plus another pick(s).

I'm not buying the FS talk either... and I don't care if he is an athletic "freak" like Meriweather (who really isn't by the way) and didn't come up with enough big plays in college (IMO) to be considered at #22. I'd take a WR, a corner or Spencer before I'd take Meriweather.

I'm not certain I would either. But without having interviewed him all I can do is trust Dallas's evaluation. I do think he is a very good player. It all depends on their evaluation of his character issues and which way they're leaning; safety vs CB vs edge rusher.

Personally I want a CB in round one because I am concerned about Henry's age and injuries as well as the age of Aaron Glenn. I would love D. Revis or A. Ross to be honest because I know they can contribute in the PR game and in the Nickel and Dime packages.

In reference to the FS spot, I am not as high on Watkins as everyone else. I watched him in college (every year he started) and I watched intently last season. My opinion of him is the same as most of the league that saw him as a 5th rounder. He is JAG. One that can help with depth, on special teams and give you a few plays in Nickel or Dime coverages but not a player that will be considered "very good" or "all-pro". IMHO, he will be a solid pro and a player every team should have on its roster. I don't view him as a starter on a good team. The beauty of it is he is only a 5th rounder so he costs us nothing salary capwise. So if he works out great gamble. If not, ...well.

Hamlin, is ok. I see him as Dallas taking a flyer. Similar to M. Coleman last season or T. Parrish late last season. If he works then great. If he doesn't oh well he doesn't count for a lot of cap money anyway and he only has a one year deal.

Dallas has very limited money plugged into that position and no high picks either so if they feel the need to upgrade with a 1st day pick, so be it. And for those who cry about the money and 1st round picks we already have in the secondary, you are probably the same people who want Dallas to spend another 1st round pick on OLB (that would be three straight years).
I'm much higher on Houston than Ross....Houston is a great man to man guy, which is what we'll want him to do as opposed to other teams who may shy away from him because they play so much zone and he hasn't done it in college. I think Ross has questionable coverage skills from what I've read.

Personally, I crap my pants when upset....I wet my pants when excited....but that's just me.

Now that I've hit middle age at full force, I want to have the protocol down. ;)
