Cornerback Terence Newman made an appearance in the locker room Tuesday and did not want to talk about the sideline incident with secondary coach Dave Campo.

"Is there any questions about the Oakland game?" Newman said.

With that he handled a few questions about the Raiders, but he was asked again about what happened with Campo.

"Every team has things that go down, you know what I mean?" Newman said. "So what?"

And then he launched into a boxing mode, promoting a Campo-Newman undercard fight for the possible Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather bout in the future. At first he said Don King would promote the fight for Vegas until it was brought up that Jerry Jones is trying to get Pacquiao-Mayweather at Cowboys Stadium.

"They're still putting it all together, but we're going to get a helluva take out of it," Newman said. "We've got a split, 70/30. I get 70. He got 30. It'll be nice. We're on Pay Per View ... I'm almost a heavyweight. I'm husky a little bit. I don't know what's going to happen as far as the weight division. I don't know if I need to lose a couple of pounds and drop down but it's possible. We'll see what happens."

I like the way Newman handled that, instead of just getting frustrated with the media and going off on them he put some humor to it... Nice job T-New

Newman's ready to fight Campo
November, 24, 2009 12:43PM
By Tim MacMahon

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman had his dukes up and tongue in cheek when he finally offered an explanation for the sideline confrontation with secondary coach Dave Campo.

Campo got in Newman’s face after a series in the first half of Sunday’s win over the Washington Commanders. Newman responded by shoving Campo, and more heated words were exchanged as Cowboys separated the coach and player.

Newman said Tuesday that it was part of promoting a fight that would be on the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather undercard.

“It’s going down,” Newman said. “It’s going to happen in Vegas. It’s going down. We’ve got Don King promoting. You know? Actually, Jerry Jones is taking over. We’re going to have Jerry. I’m kicking Don out. We’ll have Jerry promoting. We might have to move this whole thing to Cowboys Stadium. It’ll be Pacquiao-Mayweather and Campo-Newman. We’re going to make it happen.”

Replied Campo: “Sounds good. Everything’s good.”

Jones, who really is trying to bring the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight to his new $1.2 billion stadium, said after the game that he enjoyed the confrontation between Campo and Newman.

“I loved it,” Jones said. “We were pumping our fists, pounding it. I love Dave. I love the energy and excitement.”

In a more serious moment without the television cameras around, Newman said he had no problem with Campo but didn’t appreciate the way he was approached on the sideline. Newman doesn’t think the brief skirmish will have any impact as the Cowboys continue their season.

“We’re all in a fight if you look at it,” Newman said. “It really doesn’t matter. It’s in the same spirit. We’re fighting to get to the playoffs.”

I guess he'll be around forever.

I think the guy is a good secondary’s coach so did Jimmy Johnson that is why Jimmy hired him

Such a good secondary coach that they've barely been able to come up with a turnover since he's been coaching them.

I think he is doing a very good job with the young CB on this team. I would have to say I would trust Jimmy Johnson a bit more than you when it came to hiring assistant coaches if Dave did not know how to do the job Jimmy would not have brought him to the Hurricanes then to Dallas when he left the U

Careful you're beginning to sound like you're defending Roy Williams. How many years ago was it that Jimmy Johnson brought him to Dallas?

I'm telling it like it is, Dave knows the position how many ints does not determine if a coach knows what he is doing in terms of teaching young CB. Dallas secondary has been doing a very good job this year with some young guys leading the way. I'm accustoming to your constant ripping of the team to the point I really don't care what you think. You don’t like Campo hey that is cool after all you don’t like much of anything when it comes to the Cowboys so it is just par for course

All I'm saying is that his results in 2008 and 2009 haven't been that great.

How much coaching ability does it take to groom a blue chip CB like Mike Jenkins? And Scandrick looks like he's regressing.

I would say the play of the secondary this season has been pretty good, I don't determine secondary play on ints alone even though that has increased from last season to this season. As for dealing with young CB entering the NFL going against some of the best WR out there is takes quite a bit or work. In college you can rely allot of your physical talents in the NFL it takes more than just that there are no William and Mary’s in the NFL

By this idiotic logic you could make the case that Jimmy wasn't much a coach. I mean, AIkman, Smith, and Irvin were all blue chippers, no need to coach them. Haley, Sanders, Lett, Stepnoski, Newton, Allen, Woodson, all blue chippers. What exactly did Jimmy do? He must have just say around eating nachos and watching all those great blue chippers coach themselves.

Still does not explain all the playing off of receivers, too large a cushion too often, and above all the lack of picks.

This whole thing is quite ridiculous. This is football. It's an emotional game. I guess it's better than talking about the scoreboard.

Wow, what a shock another Blame ONLY THE COACH and not the players..

Maybe, just a hunch, Scandrick's play is regressing because of oh, I don't know Ummm.

SCANDRICK?

No, couldn't be.

I personally like what Dave C is doing with the DB's. Newman is getting on, but, Dallas has some guys that can play. Scandrick, while not on Jenks level is playing " a little" better.

I also hope this Newman/Campo thing is a one timer(that the media catches, crap happens all the time). If it isn't, well, Dallas got rid of the last player that did this crap as well, which I am glad about, but, Dallas needs Newman this year.

And what was it when T-blow was doing and getting all the grief? Just him? Amounts to the same thing, just a different player.

You realize that is part of Wades scheme he did it in San Diego on 3rd and long he likes to play off and run a cover 2 shell with the secondary

He has done it for a long time

All hail, Terence Newman.

The most unappreciated player in Dallas history.
