Terence Newman briefly discussed defending Donovan McNabb en route to the trainer's room for treatment.

Newman mentioned that he hoped "we" wouldn't have to cover for 13 seconds while McNabb scrambled, a reference to the unforgettable scramble and throw McNabb made at Texas Stadium a few years ago.

We?

"I'm in that 'we' for sure," Newman said, indicating that he plans to play against Philadelphia.

Of course, word was that Newman would only miss three weeks after pulling his groin July 28. And he supposedly sat out the preseason finale for precautionary reasons.

But the Cowboys sure could use a Pro Bowl cornerback against McNabb, who threw for 361 yards and three TDs in the Eagles' rout of the Rams. Newman plans to answer the bell.

Wasn't Newman sure about being back for the season opener?

Wasn't it Newman that had said before the preseason game against the vikings if this was during the season he would defiantly be ready?

I just hope he is 100% and ready and not just talking and trying to risk a further injury

And BTW this report don't indicate that Newman is going to play...

If McNabb plays like he played yesterday, they will need Newman. The NFC East is going to be tough this year.

Smart move to sit out Newman yesterday, turns out we didn't need he anyway.

Good, maybe he shut up all of the Eagle fans that think DeSean Jackson is the next Jerry Rice.

That certainly could be the real reason they sat him.

I really hope he's ready to go against Philly. They looked good yesterday but I do honestly have to believe that our secondary can cover MUCH BETTER than the Rams secondary did on those mediocre WR's.

I agree with that. Do the 2 Washington games count as BYE weeks?

This is terrible news.

If the team confirms it, we can only assume that Newman is about to die.

Worse than that, they'll have to amputate.

Even a gimpy Newman back in the lineup means we can do a lot more exotic things up front, and really bring some pressure on McNabb.

You can tell we didn't get that 'cute' against Cleveland, but I expect a lot more heat to be brought this week. Doomsday starts when Newman's healthy.
