Mostly because the media (and fans) will twist anything they say to try to turn it into something negative.

Exactly. Nothing he said in that interview was even worth mentioning and it's obvious why it wasn't mentioned immediately but instead two weeks later.

Yep. They read something and turn it into whatever thing they want when it's pretty clear that he's saying that the perception and media attention his personal life gets causes people to take away from the fact that he's been a great QB for the Cowboys.

*Shrugs* Oh well. That's life I suppose.

umm he did inherit it. Bledsoe was the starter out of camp and then he was benched for Romo

Parcells wouldn't have kept Bledsoe on the bench if Romo tanked. Romo earned the spot through his play on the field and Bledsoe stayed on the bench.

Or, Romo earned the job in training camp when he showed up and played so well that Parcells moved him up to second team and realized that Romo was a viable alternative to Bledsoe. Once Drew had made it clear to Bill that he wasn't going to get the job done, the coach didn't hesitate to put Tony in.

If you remember, Parcells had said he actually thought about Starting Romo in camp. Tony earned it... no doubt.

He is a major piece of America's team, of course he is going to be in the media, that's really not the issue. The issue is when the readers take what is written as the Gospel, NEWSFLASH they are trying to sell you something. He is responding because on this board alone there is a 12 page thread going based on partial quote.
Exactly! The damn lemmings on this board are ridiculous!

They just need something to b*tch about! I swear the media's become so bad because the fans feed into it like a moth to a flame! Maybe it's just a reflection of society...sensationalism sells!

Which is why the players need to shut up.

The media's job is to generate interest, positive or negative. Yapping at them only makes it easier.
It's fine to speak to the media if you stick to the Bull Durham cliche speak. Say all the right things and spell them out in every trite, excruciating detail. Newman didn't do that so he was forced to walk it back today with what is beautifully crafted Bull Durham cliche speak.

NFL Network ran this story with tabloid, false headlines and left the middle of Newman's quote out of his statement. The headline was on NLF.com. They took him out of context and falsely quoted him by leaving an important part out of his quote.

It was a hack job.

Terence Newman didn't do anything wrong. He was defending Tony Romo. The only people who are "stupid" are the unethical journalist who took what he said and misinterpreted it or purposely misrepresented him, so they can make a living on Soap Oprah football journalism.

The iplayer is gone, so they will have to get creative, now.

Terence Newman was collateral damage for JJT and NFL Network.

Tony Romo was the real target.

It's pathetic.

Plus, like Thompson 75 said, it's sad fans didn't understand what Newman was saying.

Reading comprehension and a little football knowledge goes a long way in life

Terence Newman believes Tony Romo is a great quarterback.

"I've played with this guy for six years and I played against him in college, so for me to not say that doesn't make sense," Newman said.

Newman was put in a partial firestorm over comments he made to WFAA two weeks ago but never aired on television regarding Romo's relationship with Jessica Simpson. The full interview was put on WFAA's Web site in which Newman answered a question about Troy Aikman's assertion that Romo does not fully grasp what it means to be the Cowboys' quarterback.

"I think that with the situation Tony was in, I think that kind of maybe hurt him a little bit - being a first-year starter then you have the limelight with his girlfriend and situations of that nature," Newman said in the interview. "It's going to take away from him being a quarterback, being a successful quarterback. He won 13 games and everything was perfect, but now after this past season, it was, 'Is he doing enough for the team? Is he working hard enough? You know, he's got this girlfriend, so ...' I think that once he inherited the starting quarterback job and his relationship got into the national media attention, I think that that was something that definitely hurt and took away from Tony Romo being a great quarterback."

Reached Monday, Newman said he doesn't believe the relationship affects Romo, "but the public perception is that it does affect him."

"The thing they don't see is he might go [out of town] but at the same time he comes back and works out," Newman said. "He's been in there the past couple of weeks with the rest of us. Roy Williams and me and a bunch of guys are in there busting our butts, and he's right there with us. They don't see him working out. They don't see what he puts into the preparation."

Here is the part of the quote the NFL Network and NFL.com left out.

Gee, they left out the text or portion of his answer that explained the heart of his comment.
