Terence Newman recently took issue with Cowboys coaches not owning up to their mistakes. However, while sitting at his locker after the loss to the Eagles, Newman said Wade Phillips shouldn't shoulder the blame.

"It's not his fault. It's the players' fault," Newman said. "We go out and play the games. If things don't go right, everybody points the finger at him, but it's not his fault. He's definitely done an excellent job. He's a great coach. When blame starts to be pointed, blame us. We're the ones who are out there playing."

Frankly, after a season falls so short of expectations and ends in such embarrassing fashion, there is plenty of blame to go around. The head coach absolutely has to take his fair share, but Newman must know there's nothing to be gained from him piling on Phillips.

It's real easy for a player to take the blame because they have no fear or expectation of losing their job or even playing time.

From the opening kick off to the final play it looked like the keystone cops out there...I was at the game and saw players shrugging their shoulders, asking each other where to line up and generally looking disinterested in even playing. By the way, if Romo tried to over rule Tom, JJ or BP, what bus would he be on right now going back to Wisconsin? Sorry...Wade has lost all control of this team and it starts at the the GM's door....

Players get cut more often than coaches get fired...

I like what Newman says. People are too quick to pass the buck away from players.

That does unfortunately reflect on Wade as much as Jerry.

As much as I'd like to cut Wade a break, I said when they hired him that he was a good choice, but that he might be a two year coach. Phillips generally has a great regular season in the first year, then his team crumbles under a lack of discipline in the second year. On top of that, this team just quit on the entire coaching staff.

If I were a team in the new USFL who had to develop talent and be better than 6-10, he'd be a good pick.

Now we have the developed talent. Now the coach we need is a proven playoff performer who demands discipline. Using the whip is good too.

My short list of people who take the job and can do it---for the next cowboys coach:

George Siefert -- got it done in similar circumstances in SF. Unlike phillips cannot develop players and a team from scratch.
Brian Billick -- tough as nails with a good offensive mind. He will hold Romo's feet to the fire and Romo has proven he needs the short leash.

newman, Ware, Ratliff are the three players we cant play without. Why would anybody hate on him? I dont get it.

Newman may not be the leader we need him to be, but at least he exhibits some leadership traits.

Sweet PI in the endzone, and not even paying attention to what DeSean Jackson is doing on a long pass. Thats the kind of 'leadership' this team needs to shed, immediately.

And yet, he was just on ESPN's First Take claiming that one of the main problems with the team was that the Coaching Staff had no accoutability.

I don't care what Jerry Jones said, both teams came in knowing that their Coach's job was probably on the line and one team rallied around their Head Coach and the other one didn't.

Camp Cupcake was certainly Wade's fault, and I believe it set the tone for the entire season.

bc PLAYERS don't blame it on others. Players do what they can to fix themselves.

GMS are supposed to fix the team. Coaches coach. Players play.

He is standing up for one of his own. It's a family. Or at least it is to 4-5 of our players. The rest are just parts.

I wouldn't blame the HC either if I was a veteren corner ripped to shreds by a rookie WR in the biggest game of the year. His plays helped change the momentum of the game.
