Luckily I was able to bump into Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones before the show as he gave Jim Turner, the president of Dr Pepper, a guided tour of the stadium, and he invited me along for a brief time.
"Come with me to a place you'll never get to see again," Jerry joked as we walked down two flights of stairs.
We went to the Owners Club, which has mirrored televisions in the middle of the seating area with etched glass with pictures of players like Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman in action. It is all very cool and has a different vibe than the Ghostbar feel the Club Level had. Jones ordered up "Dr Pepper's for the house," at one of the bars.
I somehow made my way into Jerry's suite, which is bigger than most homes. I think it has about 50 seats with a back area that could hold another 50 or so people. The best part? A private elevator to the field level and where the suite holders park. Jerry's son, Stephen, and daughter, Charlotte, were in the suite with friends as well.
I have seen Jerry ultra-excited after big wins over the years, but he could not get rid of the smile on his face. As he walked around, he carried a giant cigar with him. And later he signed autographs for the people that were sitting below his suite.
As I was leaving, a waitress was wheeling in some of the largest shrimp I have ever seen. At about that time, I figured it was about to leave and made my way back upstairs for a tour given to the media.
