hey hos, did you see jerry jones press conference after the draft with wade and stephen. Jerry indicated strongly that the cowboys would keep 2 kickers, like when wade was defensive coordiantor with dan reeves and they had 2 kickers there.

Now goose, the gooselin said this, on theticket, that generally most teams lose a kicker, and that some team may call dallas come preseason for a better draft pick then the one we drafted him, something like a 3rd round draft choice.

but i think from what i heard wade say, jerry say too, that the cowboys will keep 2 kickers as well as 3 qbs; for kitna to help tutor mcgee with wade wilson, while mcgee learns the pro system.

Uhhh, Buehler wasn't particularly accurate as a field goal kicker... he even missed some PATs... I don't see any team being interested in him, if their kicking situation is a mess...

That was just last year. His college career percent is less.

And college kickers kick off from 5 yards closer to the opponents' end zone than pro kickers do, don't they?? That extra 5 yards will obviously translate into fewer touchbacks once you get to the pros...

This is the right QB set up IMO. Strong starter, vet backup, developmental project at #3. We should have that setup all the time every year, in a perfect world.

Can't remotely justify 2 kickers, especially when we know Folk can do better than he has with a new ST coach and philosophy.

Overall, this was a head-scratcher to me.

At the very least, I think if we were going to go there, he could have easily been taken late in the 6th...2-3 picks later. And seeing that only once other kicker was taken, he could have maybe been taken with our last pick. FA would be tough, b/c he would prefer to go somewhere other than where Folk is.

Why is it insane to keep 2 kickers as opposed to 9 OL or 5 WR? If Folk pulls a hammy, who would placekick? McBriar?

I'm starting to come around on this pick. Remember how dreadful our kick off coverage was? Remember how often you held your breathe when the ball was in the air?

This kid gets touchbacks 55% of the time. Thats an incredible number. That single pick just did more to help our special teams than any two other players if you ask me.

Does it suck to keep two on the roster? Yep. But I think it may be worth it.

Exactly. If we had Buehler in the playoff game vs the gints we probably win and meet NE in the superbowl.

Why not keep him? Folk cannot get enough distance on his kickoffs. Do we really need an extra OL or LB on active status?

Our special teams were dreadful last year. Opponents started at the 30 or more yard line all the time. If netting an extra ten yards a kick a few times a game helps us, I'm all for it.

Uhhh, yes, he did... he was 65 of 66... he was 52 of 54 the year before... he was 117 of 120 for his college career... that's one PAT missed in every 40 attempts, and that ain't good... for that matter, his career field goal percentage of 78.8 isn't all that hot, either...

My question is, can this guy hold for kicks? If he is that athletic, can kick us into some touchbacks, and can spend the day holding for Folk so Kitna doesn't have to, that's all the better.

And he put 17 of his 22 kicks into the endzone if you take out onside kicks/pouch kicks, and kicks where he was kicking from the 15 yardline because of penalties....

That is really an insane statistic.

This is actually a very good pick here.

Face it, our special teams were just horrid last year. We lost at least 2 games SOLEY DUE TO SPECIAL TEAMS!!!!

Part of the problem is that we were 29th in opponents starting field position, right at the 30 yard line. Now if we can get touchbacks and have teams start at the 20, that is 10 yards per kick in field position.

Just this one change would bolt us from 29th to 1st in opponenst starting field position!!!!

i have a serious question.

can you have 2 kickers on the field at the same time on Kickoffs?

I mean, Ferris is built like a flippin LB, with speed to boot. If we can get away with it, why not have he and Folk line up next to one another on kickoffs.....imagine all the trickery we could utilize. We could mask who is going to kickoff, try onside kicks, squib kicks, etc.....

just a thought.
