On Sunday at the Glass Cactus in Grapevine, DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears hosted the Taste of the NFL Ultimate Cowboys Tailgate Party and raised $175,073.50 for the North Texas Food Bank.
Ware and Spears were joined by Kent Rathburn, the executive chef/proprietor at Abacus and Jasper's, as well as former Cowboy great Preston Pearson. Nearly 800 guests attended the four-hour event that was kicked off by Free Reign, the "heavier than metal" band featureing linemen Marc Colombo, Cory Procter and Leonard Davis, as well as Davis' high school budy, Justin Chapman.
The money raised, which was a 42 percent increase over 2008, will account for 700,249 meals.
Ware and Spears have co-hosted the event for the last four years, taking over for La'Roi Glover.
"I hope it gets big enough that no kid is hungry," Spears said. "That's the ultimate goal. Whatever that number is, whatever it takres, you just want to do your part. You might not end world hunger or hunger in the U.S. but you're definitely part of the solution."

I made my way to Stonebridge Ranch Country Club this morning for the Adams Golf Pro-Scratch Championship in McKinney to see Tony Romo tee it up.
The quarterback - and his partner, Mark Walker - had a terrific day. They opened with a 65 and are currently in first place in the two-day event although some golfers are still on the course.
Although it was a best-ball format, Romo had seven birdies on the day by himself and narrowly missed eagle putts on two par 5s.
(Romo did not want to talk although he was friendly. Hey, if guys don't want to talk, that's fine. It's up to them. The only bad thing was the sunburn I got after forgetting my sunscreen.)
And for all of you wondering, Romo almost immediately left Stonebridge Ranch after his round for Valley Ranch to workout with strength and conditioning coach Joe Juraszek.
