And what a career it was.

Man what I wouldn't give to re-live those Super Bowl years.

That was a special blend of players that I don't know if we'll ever see again.

We'll have to convince Herschel Walker to come out of retirement and then we'll have to convince Minnesota to trade us their souls for him.

Aikman speaks from experience. Here was one of the best QB's in the league, yet he could have been the one complaining for more passing attempts. He never had a chance to complete as a QB with guys like Bret Favre because it was rare for him to throw more than 25 passes in a game.

Had Aikman been throwing the ball 35-40 times a game, you can bet your butt Irvin would have complained if a large % wasn't aimed in his direction, but the Dallas Cowboys did not live by the pass. The running game pounded teams until the pass plays tore out their hearts with precision.

Had Aikman had a huge ego that was more about being recognized as the best QB or winning more all pro votes, he would have asked to throw it more, but he was about winning, and if winning meant handing the ball to Emmitt behind that massive OL, so be it. Irvin got a heavy % of the passes thrown, but he had no one to complain to because Aikman wasn't throwing it anywhere near what Favre was every week, and to complain while winning would have been unacceptable.

TO didn't complain much publicly either, not while we were winning. Losing causes lots of problems...winning makes them go away.

We would surely have to move up from #20 to do that. The question is, if Roy wasn't here, would TO still be a Cowboy?

The real question; Had Miles not gotten hurt, would Roy be a Cowboy?

I believe the answer is no. And by default, TO would still be here.

I also don't believe the finger pointing would have occurred. Nor the loser mentality that leaked into our locker room, coincidentally the same moment Roy appeared.

Things would be a lot different. We may even be talking repeat.

:laugh2: no team with me-o on it will ever win a Superbowl let alone repeat.

I see both sides of the equation and both arguments have validity.

To not see the sensationalism the press creates is to be blind. Press guilty.

To not understand giving the press soundbites allows them to fuel then fan the fires. TO and others guilty. What TO never understand was why me?????

So Troy wanted TO to go... His whole problem is that Jerry said "Romo friendly" instead of "quarterback friendly"? Hello? Would there be any question who "quarterback friendly" referred to?

And as far as that comment putting so much pressure on Romo... Troy should know better than anyone that there's a ton of pressure on Romo already. The wording of one Jerry comment doesn't change that at all.

It'll end up being the difference between 'fix the defense' and 'Mr. Fix-it.' We're going to be sick of hearing JFE and Tim HackMahon trotting it out after every game with a pick thrown, and players will be addressing it in the locker room semi-regularly.

His point makes sense, but ultimately I don't think it will matter one can of beans difference if he had said QB friendly instead of Romo friendly. All he did was make it Romo's team and put the onus on him. Nothing wrong with that at all. It should be his team. He's not some scrub who needs to take direction from a veteran FB like we had happen in the past when the coaching staff walked off the practice field.

I think the most Romo friendly this team could get is to become more run oriented and make sure he's able to stand upright for the stretch run. Didn't help our WRs all kept 'wanting the ball'. Only people I want screaming for more touches next year are Felix, MB3, and TC.

And when did the staff walk off the field? Quincy?

And there was another Aikman story requested for you to pass along to us.

While I don't dislike TO, I am glad that the Cowboys are moving on without him. However, all of that being said, I think Troy Aikman is forgetting one major factor .. the media of 2007-2009 is a LOT different than the media of 1989-1999!

Competition is fierce both online and on TV and networks like ESPN thrive on sound bytes and controversey and most sports media outlets feature athletes with big egos, loud mouths or who are all too willing to belittle other players, coaches, etc.

There are so many stories that are just coming out about Irvin and many of the other Cowboys during the 90's that would have been front page, lead story, etc. news for days if not weeks at a time if they were to happen now.

I really like Aikman but I think he tries to maintain this illusion that "in his time" everything was better when it wasn't. The only difference is that the 90's Cowboys were winning Super Bowls and the media did not have the access or the public exposure that they have today.

Oh, is that all. Guess I got sucked into to thinking it was a far better era. :)

Training Camp 2003. Parcells and the rest of the coaches got pissed off and left practice. The team huddled and Richie Anderson led the meeting. I went ballistic. Here was a guy who had not even played a down for the Cowboys yet and was the voice of the team due to his Parcells connections and our QBs (Hutch and Quincy) stood there and let him take control.

And there was another Aikman story requested for you to pass along to us.
I must have missed this. Can you point me to where?
