Fourth-round OLB Victor Butler almost missed Jerry Jones' phone call Sunday. He was just about to leave his home to head for the mountain.

Butler runs up and down the mountain every Sunday when he's at his Rilto, Calif. home. He's done it since his freshman year of high school, inspired by NFL Films footage of Walter Payton running hills.

Butler isn't sure how high the mountain is, but he said it takes him about 30 minutes to get to the peak and half that to come down.

"There's snow on top of it," he said, "so it's pretty high."

Butler won't find any mountains in Texas, but he plans to check out the big hill off I-20 in Duncanville.

As far as football goes, the OLBs have done a lot of technique work this weekend, but not much to evaluate. But LB coach Reggie Herring really likes what he sees from Butler. Herring called Butler the most athletic of the rookie linebackers, quite a statement considering third-round pick Jason Williams' workout prowess.

I always wondered if Payton's workout regime isn't what led to his early death.

It sounded like he pushed himself to the very edge every time he ran the hill behind his house or worked out in any way.

I hope Butler can give us a rookie season similar to what Woodley gave the Steelers.

His cause of death was completely unrelated to his workouts.
He had a progressive liver disease called primary sclerosing cholangitis. However, the cause of Payton's death was bile duct cancer.

4 sacks and 14 tackles?

you only look at stats....shame on you. Did you watch the Steelers? Woodley did some nice things on that defense that allowed others to make plays.

Huh? I did and I am michigan fan to boot. Woodley didn't do that great first year. He turned it second year. I did expect to play pretty good first year, and maybe my expectations were high for him, but he did dissappoint first year.

But since then, he has proved to be a good one, just like I thought he woudl be. Although most underrated of that class is David Harris, Mike LB for Jets.

He's currently listed with Kevin Burnett's old number, 57.

I don't like that number and hope he changes when pre-season ends, it makes me recall Vinson Smith.

I'd rather not.

I don't recommend running up a hill that sits in the middle of a stretch of highway.
