Wade Phillips is really mad about mental mistakes!!!

OK, maybe the headline exaggerates a wee bit. But Wade Phillips is fairly perturbed about the high total of mental mistakes the Cowboys made in the loss to the Broncos despite a vanilla game plan.

"It's not acceptable for us, even though some of them didn't play this long, that long," Phillips said. "You can have all kinds of excuses. We have to clean that up. Coaching staff, we've got to do a better job there."

Some penalties fall in the category of mental mistakes, but Wade wanted to get a clarification on a couple (Felix Jones' tripping penalty and Bradie James' not-so-late hit) to see if the refs got those calls right. Other "extracurricular" penalties were inexcusable.

"We have to be more disciplined there," Phillips said. "They knew it after they got the penalty, but we can't have it beforehand. Those things we're harping on certainly."

I like this..Buckle down and tell them how to do it wade. Get that firm hand ready to go. No Softness please:D

No magic bullets in doing this. I'm sure Wade on down to the position coaches are getting after the players on these mistakes. Players need to step up and keep their head in the game

Crayton already blamed things on the refs, so why work harder to correct "mistakes"?

Only way to get to them is to bench them. Fines help but some don't care. Benching them for a series or two will get most people's attention.

Maybe Mr Crayton should be first in line....when you do the walk..then and only then...you can do the talk.

That's okay, Phillips is already blaming things on the coaches. :laugh2:

Wade Phillips' fire and brimstone speech...

"C'mon guys, this is not acceptable! We as coaches need to coach you up better!"

Way to lay into them Wade. It would be a miracle if the players didn't all wet themselves right on the spot.

A good old Barry Switzer head slap may work.

Oh, I had forgotten about that Felix Jones tripping call.

What a gem that was tripping with his shoulderpads no less - proceless!!!

Kick some butt Wade....

Wade said in Hard Knocks that mental mistakes are the coaching staff's fault so he will be kicking coaching butt only. :laugh2:

Players need to be made accountable for their own bad play and decision making..

I really don't like Wade's little Moto about "mistakes are mine - effort is yours"

It really should not be true. They should be well coached enough that the mistakes are theirs.

That's an old refrain when it comes to Patrick.

Well I doubt Wade is going to publicly rip into any player. Assistant coaches will share the heat and they will continue to stress these mistakes to their individual groups
