Wade Phillips isn't sure if Terence Newman will play Monday

Terence Newman indicated earlier this week that he would be on the field against Donovan McNabb and Co. Wade Phillips is still wishy-washy on the subject.


Phillips said Newman was "less limited" in practice today than previous days, as was the case with WR Miles Austin and OLB Anthony Spencer.



"He's better than he was last week," Phillips said of Newman. "I'm not trying to dance around it. You never know with injuries certainly. But he looks better than he did last week, so it's a real positive sign as far as I'm concerned. Said he felt good and had a nice interception on a deep ball in kind of a live action deal. So I'm encouraged."


Could Newman start? "Yes," Phillips said.


Do you know for sure whether he'll play? "We don't know that yet," Phillips said.



What do you need to see? "If he looks like himself," Phillips said, "and he says, 'I'm ready.'"

I know this is Philly, the biggest game of the year, but SIT HIM, PLEASE. Newman is our 2nd best D player, we can NOT afford to lose him for long stretches.

Thursday practice report

WR Miles Austin (knee), CB Terence Newman (groin), OLB Anthony Spencer (knee) all practiced. ...WR Sam Hurd did not practice.

I expect him to play as well....Newman and Spencer at least practiced..I'm taking that as a good indication he and Spencer just might play.

Wade clearly said today in the PC that *he* was the one who held Newman out last week and that he wanted to play. Said they just decided to be cautious so early in the year.

Notice how they omit that from the blogs.

Mac Engel was even saying on 103.3 today that he wondered if Newman was like a thoroughbred who had to be perfect to play... This after what I mentioned earlier in the PC. And someone even asked Wade that question today, and Wade said no, he'd certainly play hurt, but I decided to wait a week to play him!

I never thought Engel -- the male one anyway -- was that bad, but now I really wonder. They definitely do this stuff on purpose.

This is why I encourage everyone to listen to the PCs themselves. These reporters and bloggers are out of control with the misinformation.
