Ireland having final say in personnel as GM of Miami?

Yeah, I really believe that one. Parcells goes to Miami to become VP of Football Operations just so he DOESN'T get to buy the groceries?

Mmmmkay...

I thought it was Garrett that asked for the permission to interview with Dallas too? Something like that is the only place he would leave Miami for....?

Of course, I have been known to be wrong........from time to time
You could very well be correct, but even if that is the case Huizenga could have denied the request. He really did Jason Garrett/Jerry Jones/every fan a favor...

Earlier in the season I would have laughed at him. But Marion just seems to get better with time. His vision has actually improved. Maybe not his vision, but his football IQ, such that he knows better when to pick his spots or bounce it outside.

I've been one of the biggest Barbarian supporters out there, but no way in hell is he one of the top 5 best in the NFL.

If Ireland goes to Miami, does anyone else see the specter of Larry Lacewell hovering overhead????? :bang2:

Guys who are better and having a better year:
LaDanian Tomlinson
Brian Westrook
Willie Parker
Adrian Peterson
Joeseph Addai

Guys who are better and are having a comparable year:
Fred Taylor
Willis McGahee
Jamal Lewis
Marshawn Lynch
Clinton Portis
Stephen Jackson
The problem is most of those guys play in the AFC.

Jerry the GM hired Garrett and Phillips. Pretty good moves if you ask me, not to mention hiring Parcells who put all the pieces in place. Jerry the GM will not be resigning anytime soon.

I think Phillips was an Ireland pick. Obviously Jerry made the decision, but he was Ireland's top choice.

Nobody is knocking Jerrys GM decisions as of late. Its not that he is doing a bad job. Ireland appears to be an important piece to the puzzle right now and its about keeping him. Giving him the GM title doesn't do anything really.

Of course, he would have to know that and if he was willing to do that then you can just give him a raise and keep Jerry happy as the GM. You gotta look at it from Irelands POV. Hes not dumb and getting the title would do nothing as far as his say in things. If hes happy in Dallas, hes stays. If he thinks he will be happier in Miami, he will go.

Personally, I'd rather stick with a winning team with a rich history but thats just mean. Going form Top 2 to the very bottom is going to be difficult.

Plus, you gotta know that BP will be leaving in a few years. He always does so do you wanna risk being on the outs after that? He could take over but even if he did there, he still wouldn't have the pull that BP will have because BP is a proven thing. And IRC, theres a condition in BPs contract that the owners in Miami will not sell the team. What happens when Bill's gone?

Personally, I think its good on paper that Ireland goes. He gets more say and probably a little better money (even though that would never be an issue with Jerry around).

In reality, whats good for Ireland? Going to the worst team in football and trying to find the key pieces that are necessary to turn things around? They need a lot and the players they do have that are still playing at a high level are running out of time.

I think Ireland should stay. I think Garrett should stay as well. Theres a few staff members who should probably go somewhere but Ireland and Garrett are not them. Each of those guys are in great positions as it is and I don't think they will find a better situation to be in.

MacMahon | Jerry should resign as GM

Jerry should resign as GM

This might seem like an awfully strange time to say that, since Jerry looks like a genius with the Cowboys at 13-2. And it's not meant as a criticism of Jerry. This is about making sure that the Cowboys keep Jeff Ireland, the VP of college and pro scouting.

It would surprise nobody if Bill Parcells tried to bring Ireland to Miami. Matter of fact, it'd be surprising if that didn't happen. Peter King wrote about it extensively in today's Monday Morning Quarterback.

The NFL rule is that if a front-office man does not have control over the draft and free agency, and he is being offered a job with that final football authority, then his team would be obligated to allow him to interview if permission were requested.

Will that apply in Miami? Maybe.

Parcells contends that his GM will have that authority, and he even read some lines from his contract in an attempt to prove it. But it'd be a non-issue as far as the Cowboys are concerned if Jerry gave Ireland the GM title.

As the owner, Jerry would still have final say over all matters involving the Cowboys. He doesn't need a GM title to prove how involved he is in football decisions.

My apologies if repost.

Merry Christmas to all!:)

To me, it all comes down to whats best for the Cowboys. If Jerry has that in mind this is what I think he should do. Don't resign as GM but rather promote himself to VP of Football Operations. That job title is obviously above the GM position. He can then hire Ireland as the GM. I'm not really sure what Stephen's job title is but he could be made Assistant VP of Football Operations meaning he would be inline to take Jerry's spot when he retires. To me, this scenario makes too much sense and since I believe Jerry is a very smart business man, I suspect we will see something like this or else we will be getting some type of draft pick compensation for Ireland and JJ will decide he'd rather have the draft picks.
