Wide receiver stuff
A few weeks ago, I said Terry Glenn was the best receiver on this team.

Some of you, or so I remember, agreed.

Last night I was having a discussion with a agent who asked about the wide receiver position.

"Who's going to make the team?" the agent asked.

After Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens and Patrick Crayton, it's pretty much wide open.

Sam Hurd and Miles Austin, it would appear to have roster spots. Austin said he will return kickoffs with Tyson Thompson. Hurd, though improving, has a fight on his hands.

Draft pick Isaiah Stanback is going to get a long look by the coaches to make the team as a receiver/punt returner. Stanback has never fielded a punt during a game.

Hurd's advantage over Stanback is that he's good on special teams.

So Stanback has to knockoff Jamel Richardson, Mike Jefferson, Jerard Rabb and Jerheme Urban.

The Cows could keep five or maybe six receivers on the active roster.

Julius Jones with something to prove
Julius Jones is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys and he's determined to show them just how good he is.
After rushing for 116-yards on only 10 carries in the loss to New Orleans on Dec. 10, Jones had 91 yards rushing on 33 carries the last three games of the season.

With rumors surrounding the Cowboys looking to deal their leading running back, Jones elected to workout in Arizona to avoid the distractions.

I like Jones. He's a good guy, but I believe he feels disrespected by the club. If he has a excellent season, 1,300 to 1,600 yard type season, he's going to bolt for another team.
Then again, I wonder if Dallas will feed Jones the ball. He carried 267 times last season and there were eight games where he carried the ball fewer than 15 times.

Marion Barber, who becomes a restricted free agent following the season, averaged 4.8 yards per carry and scored 14 rushing touchdowns.
It's going to be interesting to see how the team shares the carries this season with Barber and Jones.

Jones wants the ball 20 plus times a game to prove he's a elite running back.

I agree that Julius has a lot to prove. He may not be able to do that. They should not have left out his performance in the playoffs. He had a good game with 22 rushes for 112 yards. Especially on the drive that could have won the game. There is hope.

One, why would Juluis feel "disrespected" by the team?

And two, even if he did feel disrespected last year, why would he still feel that way even with the Robot Maker back in New Jersey?

I totally didn't think about the fact that Jones could leave on his own volition regardless of wether we pony up enough money to keep him if he has a good enough season.

That is a definite possibility.... I definitely think he was disrespected, I can only image how he (might) feel. He could go to a team in this division, maybe NY. I know this is pretty premature and maybe not even probable, but it could happen, because Ruben Droughns is not the man and Jacobs can't be the main setback. If JJ can get involved in the passing game more they would have their own Tiki Barber re-incarnate.

A man (or woman) with something to prove is nothing to underestimate. JJ could have a flash in the pan season next year and then revert back to his old ways. I don't think that will happen. We are going to see a JJ that we haven't seen since his rookie year; he is going to be cutbacking like crazy.

But if he goes to a team in this division he would have that fire in his belly even more considering he would to one-up his own team.

So we have Tiki Barber-minus the passing game reincarnate right now and don't even know it?

Yep! :lmao2:

No, that was all hypothetical. If he has a 1400 yard season and becomes the cutback runner we thought he was going to be he would be the new version of Tiki Barber. The more I think about my statement it doesn't make much sense. My point is he would be the replacement for Tiki Barber in NY. I am not saying he is going to be/is as talented as Barber.

First, he has a chip on his shoulder. Dissed by Parcells because he wasn't "tough" enough, couldn't be trusted to avoid negative plays, and not having his natural skills game-planned, he will be on a mission. His mission: make the Cowboys realize his talent, or take his talents elsewhere...

Two, he'll be playing behind a better OL in a system more suited to his style of play - misdirection, draws, sweeps, etc.

Three, of course, is $$$$$$$$$$$$. He will be paid in the near future in direct relationship to how well he performs this year.

I think he'll have a monster year if he stays healthy. If he does get injured, I would have to agree with others that he doesn't have the durability to be a featured back, but still would fit into a split role, if he is willing to accept it. I like the guy, anyway... Get 'em, Julius!!!!!!!!!

He should'nt feel disrespected because he did'nt produce at an elite back level. I dont see why he's mad at all. If he does good im sure we will pay him accordingly, but i dont see why he would expect a commitment from the Cowboys when he has been a good running back that has'nt set himself apart from Marion Barber. But maybe i dont know what im talking about.

I believe this is Year 3 of the "Julius has something to prove" meme.

Julius Jones should be the work horse back this year because he's begging to be more involved in the offense. I think his receiving skills were underestimated by Parcells...

*Note to all, that's my opinion and mine alone.

I agree with you! I think JJ is a good back and should be the feature back in this offense. Some backs need 10-12 carries to get the feel of the game and to get into a groove.. its hard to do that when you only get 10-15 carries a game. I like MB3 very much and I think he can excel at what he is, a 3rd down, short yardage back. But I think JJ should be the back that gets 70-75% of the touches.

Yeah, old JJ has no excuses this year. We've made excuses every year from Parcells turning him into a robot, to him being injured, to Barber getting all the carries, it's time for JJ to grow up and just do what he does.

We shall see. And we forget about Stanbeck, but I'm anxiously awaiting to see what this guy is all about in training camp.

Heck I wouldn't be mad at 80%, every running back needs to rock in his hand to get a rhythm going.... I think he possesses skills that Marion Barber III just don't have. I mean MBIII has a nose for he endzone but Julius Jones was taken out of the game when he was the one to get the ball down the field on more than a few occasions.
