Memo to refs: Watch out for Kellen Winslow Jr. pushing off

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
Wade Phillips mixed in a not-so-subtle message to Sunday's officiating crew while gushing about how good Browns TE Kellen Winslow Jr. is as a receiver.

"One-on-one, he's very adept at pushing off ... I mean, getting open," Phillips said with a wry smile. "I hope the officials note that."

For the record, Phillips said Jason Witten never, ever pushes off.

Isaiah Stanback puts on show during practiceThere is no doubt that Isaiah Stanback, who is wearing a harness to protect a shoulder dislocated less than two weeks ago, will be able to play in Sunday's season opener. Judging by Stanback's performance in today's practice, he might make an impact against the Browns.

Wade Phillips reports that Stanback caught pretty much everything in his radius during the windy workout at Valley Ranch. That included some highlight type of catches, including at least one one-hander.

"We might ought to put a harness on him all the time," Phillips said.

Jessica Simpson's singing at the State Fair!!!
The Texas-OU game is usually the highlight of the State Fair, but that might not be the case this season.

Jessica Simpson will sing her honky tonk stuff on the Fair's main stage on Oct. 17. That's the Friday before the Cowboys play in St. Louis, so perhaps Tony Romo will get a chance to see his gal pal perform.

Here's the Jess snippet from BigTex.com:

Just a girl from Texas: With roots in Waco, Abilene and Richardson, homegirl Jessica Simpson brings her country tour to the Chevrolet Main Stage Oct. 17.
We're checking with Jess' publicist to make sure that she'll be singing "You're My Sunday," her ode to Romo.

Quick question: Would you folks be interested in live blogging from her concert? Please let me know in the comments.

Jessica is a hottie. Speaking of dating, I've long wondered why NFL players are not allowed to date the cheerleaders?

They can't? What about hit and run?

good point. I believe it is in their contracts that they will have no sexual relations with members of the cheerleading squad. Or i've heard that. could just be BS.

Wade said today that Stanback wore the harness last year, too, they just didn't tell anyone about it...

I'm pretty excited about this. Let's face it, Hurd had a lot of room to work with as teams focused on other players. If IS gets the ball on one of those slants with some open field, he's going to be gone.

The cheerleaders are not allowed to date the players. If they do, they lose their place on the squad. Players don't lose theirs. The reason is, it isn't intended to be a chance to score a player. They want girls dedicated to being a cheerleader.

Jerry was going to do away with that rule when he first bought the team and the Director told him she would resign on the spot. He kept it.

Yeah, after Dandy Don, they got around to putting that rule in. Ole Donnie was something.

:laugh2:

Does anyone have a pic of a shoulder harness? I wonder how restricting it is.

I heard about the Cheerleader thing too. I think I heard that a Cheerleader got the boot after she was discovered to be involved with Troy Aikman at some point.

Not saying it's true, just saying i remember hearing that, or reading that somewhere.

At least in the public eye. You can't convince me that there isn't some hanky panky going on behind closed doors....

That actually doesn't look half bad.

This is some pretty exciting news. For better or worse, we're going to get to see what he has to offer as a WR.

Oh the horror if one of the disgruntled, foresaken cheerleaders breaks rank during their group sideline routine at a game in front of national television and then runs up to and pummels her Cowboy lover with her pom poms. If that Cowboy lover was McQuistan or Gurode I think I would start shaking and vomiting uncontrollably...
