Word out of Detroit

Albert Breer
Alright, I've been kinda scarce over the last couple days. But after spending some time with the family up here (I may be from Massachusetts, but most Breers are Michiganians), it's time to get back down to the business ... right now.
The Lions' best friends right now? Those who are bungling the Michigan coaching search. When I got here yesterday, the big story in both newspapers was the Wolverines' checking into Greg Schiano. Today, the big news is that Schiano has shot them down.
And while it hasn't knocked the Lions off the front pages, at time when they probably wouldn't mind people looking the other way, it has combined with the Tigers' blockbuster trade to make the Football Club of Detroit's free-fall a little less of a big deal.
In the Free Press, beat writer Carlos Monarrez has the Lions drooling over T.O.'s boundless talent. Elsewhere in that fine publication, in an un-bylined story that covers all things Kitna, from his Junk-talking January radio appearance to the 10-win forecast that hardly has him looking like Nostradamas right about now.
“I’m not saying he threw us under the bus, but he put us out there nationally with the 10-win prediction,” Lions receiver Roy Williams said.
Meanwhile, other players have other complaints elsewhere. In Friday's Detroit News, Terry Foster has guys on the team growing frustrated with Mike Martz's lack of any commitment to the running game.
"I firmly believe in running the ball," left tackle Jeff Backus said. "I think it has a lot to do with playing winning football. It establishes a lot of things for us offensively and defensively. There are a lot of pluses to it."
We'll try to pass along more as the evening goes on.
