Special contributor Bob Sturm recently held a chat to talk all things Dallas Cowboys. Here are some highlights:

Question: Did Hitchens play a really poor game on Sunday or was that more a result of the struggles of the defensive line? Do you think the Cowboys miss the size and stoutness of McClain vs. the smaller Hitchens?

Sturm: I think Hitchens is a nice player, but I prefer him on the edges more than in the middle. I do think he was poor vs the run on Sunday but I am sure it wasn't aided by poor play on the DL, too. He just didn't beat his blockers to the path often enough. If you hesitate from that spot, you are late. He can't get through blocks because of size, so he has to beat the block to the spot. And he didn't do that enough. Hitchens at SAM is more appealing to me with Rolando in the middle. Then, Hitchens and Lee in the nickel still makes sense as Rolando comes off the field on 3rd down.

Question: I'm trying to remain optimistic but I have a hard time thinking the Cowboys can survive this stretch without Romo and Bryant. I just think you take off a star QB and their best offensive weapon and pretty much every team in the league is in deep trouble. Take away Brady and Gronk, Rodgers and Nelson, Ryan and Jones, etc. and that team is done. Am in wrong?

Sturm: You are not wrong about how every team in the league would lose its maximum ability. But, this is the situation they are in. They must win a few games between now and Nov 22. Anything worse than 4-5 could sink this ship. So they must find 2-3 wins without Romo. That is why Sunday hurts so much. Atlanta was well behind and the team had 4 TDs but the half. They may live to regret that 2nd half.
