4-3 defense revolves around one thing Speed. To play this defense you have to have speed from the outside in. Your ends will be about 280 - 300 pounders that can move, but more importantly have got to be pass rushers. Your tackles will be about 300- 350 and have to be able to stop the ball from coming up the middle. Speaking of middle your MLB has to me a rangy guy being able to run sideline to sideline and hit like a bull (Gary Brackett-Colts). OLB have to be plain Fast able to get over the top of blocks maybe 220-230. They (OLB's) don't have to be real heavy due to the tackles taking up space inside keeping them clean, and able to get to the ball.

Secondary play is the same in any scheme cover or lose. In the 4-3 your options from a blitzing stand point are limited due the simplicity of defense. The 4-3 is simple because you have lineman who are lineman and nothing more. In the 3-4 you have lineman that double as linebackers. With this the 3-4 has limitless options because you have more skill players on the field (players under 260). Now if you want to know what defense is most versatile from a blitzing and coverage stand point the 3-3-5 is great. The down fall to this defense nobody has really taken time to define and refine it so it's somewhat uncharted water.

well that's starting to change than cause a lot of 4-3 teams have a 260 pound defensive end who drops into coverage from time to time. i saw osi and strahan playing in coverage several times last year.

That's just a type of zone blitz my friend, it's been around for a while.

2-deep zone with WLB and DE exchange
The first zone blitz we will discuss involves the switching of responsibilities in the basic 2-deep zone coverage. In this zone blitz, the weakside linebacker blitzes through the A gap and the defensive end -- from a three-point stance -- drops into pass coverage. This confuses the offense because the defensive end in the three-point stance has been identified as a rusher. The offense expects the defensive end to rush and allocates the offensive tackle to block him. Not only is the offensive line handicapped by the offensive tackle's wasted assignment on the DE, but by bringing the weakside linebacker the running back is forced to stay in and not release into a pass route, even though it is a simple 4-man rush.
