Kevin Burnett E-mail News tips
Of course you all know what happens after the (wg edit: plane) take off. You have never seen a bunch of grown men sleep so hard in your life. I mean guys go to sleep with smiles on their face. This is one of the only times that we can take off the Daddy/ Husband/ Son/ player/ English Teacher hat and relax. You don't have to worry about that late night phone calls for 50 g's, no kids crying, no honey do list, no nothing. I really don't sleep much during the week so I look forward to road games and going to the hotel the night before home games.
Times do changes all times are pending where we play and our kick off time. We have 11pm bed check unless we have a 7pm game. If it's a 7pm game Wade might give us until 12 but no later.
430 hopefully we are off the plane and making our way toward the buses. Last year we had more late plane issues than I've seen in a long time.
500 we arrive at the hotel and scurry up to our rooms to change clothes and go try and hit one of the more popular restaurants in town. Most of the time you gather with a couple of teammates and catch a cab or if the hotel likes us they will have private cars or shuttles for us upon arrival.
530 go eat on your own, laugh and joke with the teammates, see family and friends or some guys such as myself go to the Radio Road Show by Maximum Sports Connection. This is one of the things I do to get closer to the fans similar to what I'm doing now (just no misspelled words).
700 back to the hotel or in my case done with the radio show. We may slide a few domino games in, and or watch a few college games to see whose team got beat the worse. I'm pretty sure you guys know if your team loses you get all kind of grief so some guys hide out if their school is not having a good year.
830 sp teams meeting
900 team meeting
910 defensive team meeting
During these three meeting we watch the other teams favorite plays just to keep us fresh on what we have to do, come game time
940 correct your test, yes we do get test before every game
945 get your snack
10 go to your room and get off your feet. You can find me in the room laughing at my roommate or talking to my two sons on the phone. I use this time to laugh and try to get myself away from the game.
11 I'm in the bed though I may not be sleep just yet. For me it depends on what time kickoff is because I don't want to go to sleep at 11 if we play a 7pm game (makes me feel sluggish). Everybody is different, some guys don't sleep the night before a game, as all of us with kids know 5- 7 hours is all your going to get. So when I go on the road or we have to be in the hotel I only need about 6 hours of sleep and I feel like the big pink bunny (I keep going and going and going).
I'll wrap this up tonight or tomorrow (going to video blog)
