Run Read
A great question has come up about a linebacker progression of reads. This is a fairly simple thing but has many rules.
From the first day of camp your told to read through the near guard, to the near back, to the ball carrier (the triangle). One thing that over rides this rule is a pulling lineman. Another thing that over rides this is man to man coverage. I think this would be better explained trough a video blog. The last ones I did didn't come out good bc of lighting issues. I am going to try to get one to explain this better
Pass Read
Pass reads are a little bit harder. Not only do you have to read the triangle to clear run first, you also have to match (cover the guy in your zone) routes based on coverage. This gets kind of difficult when you have an offense that motions a lot. Adding in a blitz also makes thing pretty hard because you as a linebacker have to know who the hot receivers are. The linebackers are most of the time responsible for the hot routes, the safety also has a big part in where you go. In blitz coverage at my particular position you have to drop away from the safety a lot not 100% but most of the time. There are also two more element that come in to play during a pass. One being route combination and your looking for blitz break off or hot routes, and the dreaded fish hook (if something is in front of you then something is behind you). DON'T BIT THE HOOK(short route). Lastly your reading the qbs eyes and as soon as he take his hand off the ball you have to react like a scalded DOGG(just a saying) "DONT CALL PETA".

** e-mail me a few questions I will answer them after my power gets turned back on
