This just in on Lincoln Kennedy....

This comes from beat writers Jean-Jacques Taylor and Todd Archer...

Former Pro Bowl offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy is on his way to the Cowboys’ training camp complex for a workout later today, according to agent Scott Casterline.

“We want to evaluate,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “He’s been a good player. He’s coming out of retirement. We ought to be looking at any options we have relative to our offensive line.”

Kennedy, 35, is attempting a comeback after retiring in 2004 with Oakland and spending last year as an analyst on NFL Network. A former first-round pick of Atlanta in 1993, Kennedy was traded to Oakland in 1996 and was a two-time Pro Bowler (2001, 2002), but weight issues have always been a concern.

Oakland released Kennedy the other day from the reserve/retired list.

The Cowboys have Rob Petitti, Marc Colombo and Jason Fabini competing for the right tackle spot, but looked into the possibility of bringing Adam Meadows in for a workout before he signed with Denver.

Jones said the decision to look at Kennedy does not have anything to do with an unhappiness on the play of Petitti, Colombo and Fabini.

“You get a veteran like him that might have tread left,” Jones said, “and you’ve got to look at it.”

From the Romo Files...

Had to laugh when I saw a dozen cameras around Tony Romo on Monday afternoon. Seems like folks are starting to at least think of him as a viable option for the future.

The fact that Romo's a scratch golfer actually translates pretty well to football. He doesn't dwell on bad shots in golf and he seems to immediately focus on his next shot. It's the same way with football. He doesn't appear to allow bad throws to bother him.

Question of the Day...

Who will be the biggest name player released by Bill Parcells?

Who's moving up?

- Rookie tight end Anthony Fasano is displaying excellent hands and he's not afraid of contact. His one-handed catch in Monday's second practice was outstanding.

- Rookie safety Pat Watkins is the name you should write down. This guy is rangy 96-5) and he can cover a lot of ground. The Cowboys would like to use Keith Davis solely as a special teams player, but he still wants to start.

- Plain and simple, Marco Rivera wasn't very good last season. Now, he's feeling like his old self. Rivera has also taken several of the young players under his wing.

By the way, Rivera said he helps out rookies because it's the way he was treated.

- Disturbing sight of the day goes to Samuel Tauleealea (6-1, 320), who was spotted hopping into the Residence Inn hot tub between practices Monday. Also, if Samuel is actually 6-1, I'm 7-0.

- I'm becoming more of a Sam Hurd guy with every practice. Gets in and out of breaks as fast as anyone and appears to have solid hands.

I like the fact that he appears to be able to shake off a bad play and move on. Many times you see guys pressing and it only make matters worse.

Great maybe one day he'll become a scratch NFL quarterback.

Read somewhere else that Rivera wasn't looking very good the first couple of days at camp. Hope Mosely's version on him is right.

Take it from someone who knows, do not read too much into Kennedy going to TC for a workout.

2 years ago Brandon Everage's agent actually created a username on this site, PMed me a phone # and asked me to call. He told me Everage was in Oxnard to work out.

I scooped everyone on him being there. Not even Dale, who was at TC was aware yet. I was feeling pretty spry about the whole thing.

One big problem, Everage stunk out loud in his workout despite guarantees from this man that he had worked out with Jerry Rice and run his hill, and in the best shape of hsi life, etc.

boozeman over at DCC was as big on Everage as me. He chewed my butt out for getting his hopes up. Even with the split of the forums I felt he and I were still friends. He hasn't said a word to me since that day.

Moral of the story, temper any enthusiasm until he actually signs.

Yep I remember that!!!. There was definatley a buzz on some Cowboy forums when you broke the news about Everage. Most were excited because he played alongside Roy at OK.

Lincoln has some skins on the wall. I think he should have a better idea of what it takes to pass an NFL physical at the Oline position. If he's trying to collect a quick buck, he's in for a big surprise.

I think this is an extremely good point. I'm not predicting the Cowboys will sign the guy or anything, but Kennedy strikes me as too intelligent and mature to have that "quick buck" mindset. If that were the case, he would have had his agent request a tryout somewhere other than the Cowboys and a Parcells run training camp, IMO.

Mosely is the second person I've heard saying Rivera looks good. Micky also said as much.

How is kicking the tires not a prudent thing to do?

Got nothing to lose.

Sometimes they bring these guys in early with no intention of signing them now, but as backup plans so they can move quickly later. Not saying this is what they are doing, but either way, they will know what he has.

I remember reading a draft scouting report on Hurd that was very complimentary of him and even said "he shouldn't have any trouble making an NFL roster." I thought at the time that was saying something for an UFA.

Sounds like he and Miles Austin have some potential.

I remember the Everage thing - I was at DCC.com at the time and I got beat down because I didn't like Everage and didn't want him on the team.

if he can play depth and help the young guys, then he still has a role, but he wasn't really paid $$$ to be a player/coach. but at this point anything we can get out of him is a good thing.

Am rooting for Rivera to come back strong this year, his back injury must have really limited him last year. Seams to be a real professional, takeing Pettiti under his wing and such.
While on the downside of his carear, if healthy, he can play to a high level and also show our rooks and young players how to be a professional football players. Will have my fingers crossed for him all year.
