Programming note
The schedule for Tuesday, Aug. 1 is as follows:
• Bill Parcells news conference 11:30 a.m. local time
• Practice is from 2 p.m. until 4:20 p.m.
Check the blog early and often for round-the-clock updates. Planning to pull an all-nighter tonight so that I can address this kickoff specialist situation.

Late practice notes
• Rookie free safety Pat Watkins may be the Justin Beriault of this year's camp. He may look a little strange at 6-5, but he keeps making plays. He made his second interception of the day Monday afternoon when he closed on a pass from Tony Romo. He seems to be getting more confident each practice. Like a lot of Florida State players, he has a bit of a swagger. Judging from Parcells' comments today, Watkins has a shot to challenge Keith Davis for the starting job.
• It's still very, very early in the process, but Drew Bledsoe and Terrell Owens aren't sharing any chemistry. After looking sharp for the first couple of days, Owens was sluggish Monday. He dropped a couple of balls. On one quick out, he may have heard the lumbering footsteps of Greg Ellis, who has suddenly turned into Dick "Night Train" Lane.
• Early in camp, right guard Marco Rivera looks like a new man. He struggled with a back injury last season and just never looked right. In the afternoon practice, he completely neutralized Ellis on one play. Rivera has also been credited for Rob Petitti's off-season improvements. Tune in for my Petitti column tomorrow. Love writing columns about squats and power cleans!
• Rookie tight end Anthony Fasano reached out and made a fantastic one-handed catch on a pass from Romo. Later in a 7-on-7 drill, Fasano caught a pass and then ran over Owens. T.O. thrust his hands into the air after the collision.
• CB Terence Newman is always around the ball. He knifed through the line to hit RB Marion Barber during a team drill.
• Rookie CB Quincy Butler of TCU had to do pushups after dropping an interception.
• LB Junior Glymph and TE Sean Ryan squared off in the best fight of camp so far. Ryan appeared to connect on two punches. A crazed Glymph had to be restrained by teammates. Parcells made the team run a lap after the fight.
• Parcells also found time to discipline a teenage member of the chain gang for not posting the proper down.

Practice stuff
Terence Newman is No. 1 on the depth chart for punt returns.
But, Newman, Skyler Green and Jamaica Rector all practice punt returns after practice on Monday.
With the team in shells, the running game was better in the evening practice. I liked how Tyson Thompson ran hard into the hole.
Patrick Watkins had an interception in the evening practice and his stock is rising with the coaches. He's doing a real good job of putting some pressure on Keith Davis for the starting spot at free safety. But, Watkins, a rookie from Florida State, has to keep improving, espeically when the preseason starts.
The cornerbacks were getting physical with the receivers in practice, jamming them at the line of scrimmage, which is a good thing this early in camp.
Weather was cool the entire day with a light drizzle in the morning. Hope it's that way again.
Wideout Terry Glenn is excited about having Terrell Owens on the other side of the field. Glenn said he expects more one-on-one coverage, but also said don't take the new twin-tight end set, as a run oriented offense. The team will pass the ball more than what you think.
Saw Flozell Adams walk out of the locker room with ice on his right knee. He wasn't in the mood to talk, but was rather pleasant.
