TEXAN FOR LIFE! ... What rookies look as if they will become starters (impact players)?
Rainer Sabin: I think Frederick, Escobar and Randle will make an impact. Frederick will be a starter while Escobar will likely start games based on the formation the Cowboys run on the opening offensive play.

Mike ... To many Cowboys fans, Stephen Jones is our only hope. What do you think he makes of Jerry's inept handling of an easy media session yesterday?
Rainer Sabin: I think he supports Jerry Jones as much as possible. I don't think he's worried about perception. Stephen knows what is going on in the organization. He's not surprised by any of it.

Tom Landry had a defensive background, did he call plays?

If he did, did he have to give it up at some point?

I remember something happened when Paul Hackett (sp?) came in.

Agreed on Frederick and Randle, they are obviously going to have a lot of playing time and have the best chance of making an impact. As for Escobar, I'm just scarred from Bennett, so I'm going to play the wait and see approach. Although I think that he has all the tools to get it done, I just hope everything clicks for him.

Bennett was a tool. Escobar looks like he has his head on straight.

Tom Landry called the plays on both sides of the ball. Put it that way.

I say this again as for comparing Escobar, to Bennett based off past failure at the second TE position he's nothing like Bennett at all and he won't dropped many passes either that I can guarantee you.

Last year we got little impact from the rookie class. Pretty much Claiborne and that it's. I expect this year's group to contribute a lot more. Not that you should judge a draft class off of first year production.

Terrance Williams is just as likely to impact the team this year than Escobar, IMO. Randle will probably start some games this year because of an injury prone starter. The same can be said of Williams.

I really hope that randle can carry the ball because murray is so injury prone. I wonder during training camp if a decent veteran is released or is pushed out of there team maybe we can sign one. I do not trust having dunbar and randle being the main backups to murray if they have to carry the load. escobar I will also take a wait and see. I think that harris will play more then Williams.

Let us not forget Williams. He may have as much to say as these three.

When Hackett was initially hired in 1986 -- Landry did briefly hand over play-calling duties. The Hackett offense (w/Danny White at QB) did very well and Dallas was 6-2 at mid season.

However, White fractured his wrist (lost for the season-- and never fully recovered) and the back-up QB (Steve Pelluer) could not handle of the complexity of the Hackett offense. At that point Landry decided to re-take play-calling duties. Landry called the plays at that point forward . . .

Plus, I think we get to double dip this year, as a bunch of guys from last year's class will contribute this go around.
