Bob Sturm recently chatted with fans on Thursday and discussed the Dallas Cowboys and the upcoming NFL draft. Here are some highlights:

Recalling the outstanding success of the 2009 'special teams' draft, would Jerry Jones really try to trade down from No. 9 to pick up a quantity of picks over a blue chip quality?

Ha! Well, this would be different, I suspect. Moving down from 9 should net you an additional 2nd or 3rd Rounder. Really, it is not a bad plan given that the Cowboys could really use a plug for another hole on the team. I know nobody likes to trade down, but for a team with 4 or 5 holes, it isn't a horrible plan if it is what they are thinking.

Do you ever get the feeling that Jerry will not be able to help himself and sacrifice picks from this year or next to move up instead of being wise and moving down?

I would have a hard time seeing a trade up. Patrick Peterson would be the one legit prospect that if he gets to 6, you might get antsy, and maybe Marcel Dareus if he makes it there, too. Otherwise, I don't see a trade up prospect on the radar. Don't forget, each slot up in the Top 10 is very expensive, too.

Trading back in this draft would not be anything like the 2009, Dallas would still be taking a 1st rd pick chances are a mid 1st pick. In 2009 there was no 1st rd pick. Add to that picking up the addition 2nd gives us a chance to move back up to the 1st or have a chance at getting a couple of very good players in rd 2.

im still leery about moving down, seems like when Dallas does that it doesnt pan out recently. Cant we just have a small but quality draft? Im all for a few players that will help us out right now instead of projects or guys we hope pan out. Lets take some sure shots and get this season rolling.

We have plenty of adequate, young depth now. I am on board for drafting immediate impact players.

Dez is an impact player where did we get him? 24th pick in rd 1. I think if Dallas does trade back it will be in the teens pick more than likely and there are still impact players out there

Once again you're correct, and chances are good we might have dropped again. I just dont want us to drop even if we get another player. I just want to hear Dallas draft someone another team wanted and knows will make an immediate impact.

The ideal that somehow we can't get an impact player outside of 9 is ridicules and the notion of getting 2 2nd rd picks well you find many impact players who went in the 2nd rd as well.

that can be said of any position. come on stop the nonsense. trust me if any other team had number 9 they would be getting the player of the year garaunteed by most posters around here. Every year if the Skins have a worse pick than us i hear how they are getting a great player at that position. Them and the Lions should have the best teams going, but such is the draft and yet before the pick they are vowed by all to get a great player.

Yes it can be said about any position however with the bulk of top OL players falling in the teens Dallas could put themselfs in a position to get one of the top OL and yet still be able to address more needs in the 2nd. I just think for anyone to claim making the trade back means Dallas is looking at backups is about a dumb as it gets, we would still be talking a fairly high 1st pick.

If we can tell that from the first 8 picks, then, fine. Otherwise, just pull the trigger and get another blue chip player on the roster. Makeup picks in later rounds, if you have to.

If someone like Peterson or Miller falls, I'm cool with us using the pick. But I'm hoping we trade down to later in the round and grabbing an extra 2nd this year or next. I think 9th would be too high to draft an OL or safety in this class.

I would agree with you, except this year, we have way too many holes in the secondary and the O-line.
To me it makes no sense to draft a very expensive marquee player and then hope there is quantity in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to fill these secondary and O-line holes.

Trading down this year is a no brainer, particularly when you realize that passing on that USC lineman could still get you a Constanzo from Boston College and at a reduce price.

Poor jerry, it will be a very difficult draft for him because our needs are so many.
