Forget about Falcons' Schaub

Cross another backup QB candidate off the list, if you ever considered Atlanta's Matt Schaub a possibility.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Falcons will tender Schaub a one-year qualifying offer. That means a team must cough up first- and third-round picks if it signs Schaub, a restricted free agent.

That will only happen if a team wants Schaub to start. That isn't the case with the Cowboys.

I kind of think that David Carr will remain in Houston, so I wouldn't mind the Cowboys pursuing Jake Plummer. He is of similar style to Tony Romo, and would be a dependable back-up alternative....

There is a chance he could get traded for less. I still don't see him in Dallas. Detroit supposedly interested.

Widely rumored that the Falcons would lock him up. Next year might be a different story if they're still committed to Vick.

I agree he will not go to the Cowboys but if your a GM who thinks Schaub is the real thing than a 1st and 3rd is not a bad move to get a starting QB.

Main problem Vick may face will be Bobby Petrino who has stated he does not want to see Vick run the ball as much and wants more production from him in the passing game. At Louisville is offense was not predicated on the QB running the ball it was based on his QB delivering the ball on time

Another clueless blog entry from MacMahon. Why would we want Schaub when we have Romo? Schaub would only go to a team where he would start.

I've never heard of Petrino saying this. I did hear that he said he is going to allow Vick to pass the ball more and choose his own plays, read defense, etc. It's probably going to be "Vick - here is my offense. Do it right and show me you can pass as well as run, then you will stay. Screw up and by week 6 i'm putting this passer in."

I heard him the other day talking about limiting the amount of runs and getting more production from the passing game.

Petrino did say he wants Vick running less...he's also reportedly putting more on Vick in terms of play calling and reading defenses at the LOS...Vick isnt good at either of those things because he's a bonehead

IMO he may see the bench before the end of the 2007 season
