I think Houston's success against these receivers gets blown out of proportion. Some media guys who have not watched him see these numbers and conclude that Houston is better than he is.

I know Mayock is probably Houston's biggest supporter, and he's watched him all the time on tape. He's even shown a lot of his tape on NFLN, including how he ate Jarret's lunch. He got inside Jarret's head so bad that he was just jogging routes.

Not many college defenses play strictly press man to man, especially against great WR's, so with a lot of these cornerbacks you're having to speculate how they'll do in the NFL. You don't have to speculate with Houston. Arkansas played strictly man up press, and played it against the best WR's in the country.

Not that high on Houston mainly because of his height. However, he is fast, can cover and doesn't shy away from contact. I wouldn't be too upset with him as a pick maybe he can be another Antoine Winfield.

He isn't my 1st choice at CB though if Dallas remains at #22. Would much rather have Revis or Ross.

Jarrett told our reporter that he was hurt in the game against Arkansas, and that's what affected his performance, not Houston.

I will throw in, though, that Sidney Rice said he was the best corner he faced, which is kind of ironic, isn't it?

to be fair, in 14 games, Houston only allowed 2, 100 yard receivers

forget who the other guy is

Also to be fair, let's figure in those pass interference penalties.

Revis is the one guy I would really like to see be a Cowboy.

I guess that would make Nolan Nawrocki of PFW Houston's biggest detractor. He basically says he can't cover unless he has his hands on the receiver.

I would, too, but that's only based on seeing Houston. I have not watched Revis or Ross play.

If Dallas does draft Houston, I'll certainly pray that I'm wrong about him.

Heres a statistical comparison between Houston and the other SEC CBs being drafted (Johnathan Wade, Fred Bennett, David Irons) against common opponents:

Vanderbilt WR Earl Bennett
Wade - 4 catches for 16 yards
Houston - 4 catches for 31 yards 0TDs
Bennett - 4 catches for 16 yards 0TDs

South Carolina WR Sidney Rice
Wade - 3 catches for 52 yards 0TDs
Houston - 7 catches for 126 yards 1 TD

LSU WR Dwayne Bowe
Irons - 4 catches for 64 yards 0TDs
Houston - 5 catches for 68 yards 0TDs

If Houston is so elite then why was he last in all of the head to head games?

Although I'm against drafting Houston, I don't know if this comparison is fair. Like has been mentioned, Houston was put on a island in man-to-man coverage. I'm not sure how much help these other corners received.

That's part of what makes it so hard to evaluate players. What scheme did the team run? How much pressure did it get on the quarterback? How accurate was the quarterback? Etc.

Looking at these numbers (and any numbers) in absence of all other information skews the view.

Like I said, from watching Houston, I didn't like what I saw overall. The numbers for him and probably for the others don't tell the whole story.

 pass-interference penalties are included in yards given up, so we are figuring them in

:lmao2: of course he's going to say that, who's going to admit to getting dominated?

Are they? I'm not sure about that. The receivers' numbers are legitimately what they caught against him, not what they caught plus PI yardage.

That's possible, just reporting what he said.

of course there are other things to consider such as pass rush, safety help etc...

but I like Houston and Wade a lot...and would be happy with either

I think he really was coming off of a quad injury sustained in camp or something...not really sure how much it really effected him, but still it's not a total lie.

Rice didn't have a solid # 2 receiver to draw coverage off of him, so he faced the best corners in the SEC each week. Not to mention he played with elite QB play from Heisman hopefuls such as Blake Mitchell (benched for current NFL WR hopeful Syvelle Newton).

If hes around in the 2nd round, which he probably will be, he'd be just as logical as Meachum/Jarrett/Bowe in the 1st considering they probably won't see the starting lineup for at least the next two years, with Crayton/Hurd/Austin competing with them. It'd make more sense to sure up our spotty secondary early in the draft, considering it was the most glaring hole on our team last year. Aaron Ross would be ideal for me at 22.
