Up front money

Since 2003, here are the signing bonuses Jerry Jones has handed out to either free agents or in re-signing his own players to be starters:

2003 - LT Flozell Adams - $10 million, RT Ryan Young - $2 million
2004 - RG Marco Rivera - $8.125 million
2005 - LG Kyle Kosier - $5 million
2006 - Andre Gurode - $10 million, Leonard Davis - $16 million.

That's $51 million. Yikes. And that doesn't include the $12.35 million Larry Allen got in 2002 or guys like Jason Fabini and draft picks like Jacob Rogers and Stephen Peterman. I'm sure I might be forgetting somebody too.

I think they were counting first year base pay plus the bonus. Thats where they get guaranteed since nobody usually gets cut before they ever play.

Archer's years are off. This is 2007, not 2006. And $51 million over a five-year period isn't a lot -- relatively speaking, of course -- considering that the salary cap is $109 million for ONE SEASON right now. Think about that.

Seems Archer got your memo... He updated his blog entry...

UPDATE: Just realized I got the years wrong on those signing bonuses, so that is corrected. And this is just for offensive line, not counting other positions. If you don't think dishing out $51 million in bonuses at one group over a five-year period is a lot, well, I want to see your accountant.
