Why Bledsoe won't be considered for Hall of Fame

A few folks questioned my statement that Drew Bledsoe will not be a candidate for the Hall of Fame. I'll offer an explanation.

Bledsoe's yardage and TD totals, while impressive, are largely the result of playing a long time and throwing a lot of passes. He ranks fifth all-time in passing attempts. Vinny Testaverde threw for more yards and TDs than Bledsoe. Anybody think Vinny is a Hall of Famer?

Bledsoe's career passer rating is 77.1. His passer rating was never better than 87.7 for a season. Not the stuff of a Hall of Famer.
A QB can get in the Hall of Fame without gaudy stats if he's considered one of the all-time great clutch players (Troy Aikman, Joe Namath). Bledsoe doesn't qualify with a 4-3 playoff record as a starter and a four-pick performance in a Super Bowl loss.
Bledsoe, who was selected to four Pro Bowls in 15 seasons, had a good but not great career. The Hall of Fame doesn't induct good players.

Earth-shattering work.

But people will argue.

I don't think Bledsoe should sniff the HOF personally, but there are people that will consider him a lock.

No way is Bledsoe a HOF QB despite his statistics. The only chance he had to make it was winning a SB as the Cowboy QB, but that didn't happen.

Benchsoe is 3-3 in the playoffs as a starter. The 2001 Pitt game was when he came in prior to the half while the Patriots had the lead.

His stats are inflated due to the time in the league and the amount of passes he chucked. When you look at his percentages, it tells the real story. For a player with all those yards, he ranks 180th all-time in turning yards into points.

Further, he has never been a top QB in the league when you compae his rating to his peers. He was mediocre as a regular season QB and was a horrible playoff performer. His 6-TDs and 12-INTs represents his body of work.

True. We all know first hand the obstinate nature of Bledsoe groupies.

:hammer:

This was the last stop on the HOF bus for Drew. I liked the guy and wished it would have worked out better for him at Dallas.

His stats put me to sleep. Let's not forget that he didn't do what a lot of HOF worthy older QBs do in the twilight of their careers and even speak two words to the young up and coming replacement in Romo. He could have been so instrumental in the further development of our next rising star at the QB position. Instead he chose to shuck sunflower seeds in a stadium jacket. Good riddance. He's definitely not HOF material IMO.
