For the first time in the NFL Network’s five years of putting together a top 100 players list, Tony Romo has cracked the top 50.

The four-time Pro Bowler was revealed at No. 34 Wednesday night on the list that is voted on by the players.

“When Romo’s in the game and he’s playing like he can play, it’s a tough time to beat him because he makes magic happen,” Arizona Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell said during the four-minute segment on the Cowboys quarterback.

It was also revealed that Romo is eighth among QBs on the list. Last year, Romo was ranked 71st overall and 12th among quarterbacks.

The seven QBs likely ahead of him this year: Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson.

Romo was completely left off the top 100 in 2013. He was 91st in 2012 and 72 in 2011.

It is odd that we've yet to hear of one Dallas Cowboy voting on this stuff.

The guys on the network show either thought he was at the right spot or should be higher.

His attitude about it is fine; amusing to look at but go onto your regular business right after.

The guy at the liquor store told a friend's cousin they saw Tony crying and all bent up. Just a rumor.

That list means absolutely nothing. We cut Gurode the same year he made that list.

At this point in his career most teams have already played against Tony. So they've seen exactly how good he is first hand.

Didn't hurt that he delivered on prime time and in the post season this year as well.

Glad to see him finally get his respect because he might not just be the most underrated player in the league, but maybe across the whole sports landscape.
Those 8-8 years were a lot more like 5-11 but Romo has always made his team and especially his receivers look better than they really are.

The discussion centered around him not leading the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.
I thought voting for the best players in 2015 was based on how they played in 2014-2015?

Jimmy Graham, ODB and TY Hilton should not have been ranked higher than Romo.

I almost wonder that if the reason you never see the Cowboys players promoting many things is because we already have the popularity so they bring on players from the smaller franchises to help build the smaller brand.

Tony Romo should have at the very least been ranked within the top 15 players, maybe even the top 10.

I saw Tyler Clutts on the show last night. Don't know if he voted but he did talk about Smith.

Russell Wilson definitely should be ahead of Romo with those 20 TDs and 3400 yards. o_O

But he can run...so....

Is Tony Romo the most underappreciated player in the NFL by other NFL players?

NFL rank in passer rating (rank among QB in NFLN "Top 100")
U = unranked by NFLN

2012
4 Romo (11)
7 EManning (5)
15 Newton (6)
18 Flacco (10)

2013
10 Romo (U)
12 Flacco (7)
14 EManning (9)
15 Newton (10)

2014
8 Romo (11)
16 Newton (6)
32 Flacco (9)
35 EManning (U)

2015
1 Romo (8)
15 EManning (U)
16 Flacco (12)
26 Newton (10)

Even though I think the drooling "count the rings" logic is among the most idiotic, low IQ things going in sports right now... Tony is the highest ranking QB without a title, save for whatever prematurely high slot they put Luck in.

The thing about the "rings" that some QB's have that others argue about don't take into account the teams they were on.
But when it comes to Romo not having a ring, it is all because of him and not the team he has been on.

Eli Manning is a lucky goof ball that got on a good team, not because of his excellent skills!
