ARLINGTON – A key play in the Dallas Cowboys’ win Thursday that will likely be overlooked came during Dallas’ key drive just before halftime that cut the Oakland Raiders’ lead to 21-14.

On the fourth play of the touchdown drive, receiver Dez Bryant caught a pass over the middle and had the ball stripped out of his hands by Oakland cornerback Mike Jenkins. But Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith used his quickness to jump on the fumble, keeping Dallas’ drive alive at the Raiders’ 29-yard line.

Smith played well all day against Oakland, paving the way for a Cowboys running game that finished with 144 rushing yards. Smith helped pave the way for DeMarco Murray’s three touchdown runs.

I am so glad Jerry pulled the trigger on this pick...don't have to worry about LT for next 10yrs

Only issue of this pick is one of context IMO, next pick in Draft that year is Hall of fame DE JJ Watts who was also clearly on our RADAR but our needs were greater in the Oline category due to horrible talent selections in previous years. Your got the new Toyota Prius when you could of had the Tesla S which is redefining greatness in cars. IMO

really? after 3 years?
his attempt at 25 sacks aint going so well this year. He's having a good year but hardly HOF worthy. 9.5 sacks so far. Last year was an anomoly for him, now he's being the target of gameplanning. Lets ee if he can do it for the next 7/8 years as well.
I still take tyron alld ay over watt because LT is the premium position.

I'm so glad we took him and Frederick the past few years. I'm all for linemen high in the draft. Win the battle up front and you most likely win the game.

If you think 9.5 sacks 2/3 of the way thru a season is a bad season from a 3-4 end then you need to know more about football. That is hall of fame worthy plus he is also one of the 2 or 3 best run defenders in football.

Watt is Reggie White. He can line up anywhere and do anything. He is the best non quarterback in football. Only Peterson and Megatron are close.

I loved some of Tyron's run blocking on Turkey day. Pretty sure I remember him blocking two dudes at once on one.. I have to go back and find it.

He really showed quickness on that play. I seen the fumble, then I seen a 300 pound linemen flying to the ball and gobbling it. Then he got up, and he said Gobble, gobble, MOFO. :D

last part is made up lol

It's safe to say both Texans and us made right on our picks that year and if we had both of those picks we would have taken them both. Both of these guys are impact players for their team. I have no regrets with Dallas passing up on Watt. We ended up with a lineman that still has 10 yrs of football left in him and at least he has another lineman who will be with him along the ride.

From what I remember it was also his hustle on the play against NYG that prevented Terrell Thomas from making an in bounds recovery on that fumble in the 4th.

The guys got foot work second to none. Definitely the second best lineman this team has drafted since Allen.

watt is a great player. but at this point he is not a HOF player. he may get there, he looks like he could get there if he continues to stay healthy and play at this level. but he is a long ways from even being considered a candidate right now

Falling on a fumble is evidence of pro bowl line play? That's an odd connection to make.

good point.
I say stoning all of the elite pass rushers he's faced this year, like he has, is a little bit better evidence to use to make the point

You are comparing Tyron to a Prius and Watts to a Tesla?

In my opinion, a potential Pro Bowl LT is more valuable than a Pro Bowl DE. I don't regret the pick at all.
