With the drafting of kicker Alex Henery, David Akers’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles is apparently over.
The former Nebraska Cornhusker went 120th overall, the highest a kicker has been selected since New England took Stephen Gostkowski two spots earlier than that in 2006.
“Akers is a free agent and he's not done kicking in the NFL,” SI.com NFL columnist Don Banks wrote on Saturday . “Given the challenges the Cowboys and Commanders have had with kickers in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised if Akers wound up somewhere else in the NFC East, facing his old team twice a year. Not exactly the Donovan McNabb to Washington storyline of 2010, but it might be fun.”
The Cowboys' current kicker, David Buehler, only handled kickoffs as a rookie in 2009. That season, he led the league and set a club-record with 29 touchbacks. Last season he took on field goal kicking duties as well, and the transition came with its share of troubles.
Buehler was 16 of 24 on three-point tries from 30 or more yards. He also missed a PAT at Arizona on Christmas Day that ultimately cost the Cowboys a chance at victory.

Do it Jerry?

I don't know. I've always hated Akers. It would be tough for me to accept him. Eventually I would simply because he wears the star, but I'd always consider him a purely hired gun.

It's possible he's nearing the end. I know he's missed a couple of clutch kicks in the recent past. (Not against us, obviously)

We have two Kickers already. Are you people trying to kill me?

New rules make Beuhler marginalized unless he gets a whole lot more accurate. I say bring him in.

I think exactly the opposite. I think the new rules guarantee him his spot.

I would do it but knowing us he would fall off a cliff as soon as they sign him

Cant believe Henery went so high, I was hoping wed get him 6 or 7

Yeah 90% of kickoffs will end up touchbacks if we want him to boom it.

You people are nuts... Of course I'd take Akers over Buehler. Akers kickoffs are very good by the way.

Pretty sure Akers has never missed a legitimate field goal attempt (discounting a couple 55+ yard prayers to end the half/game) in Dallas.

If we sign him, he'll miss three in the first month

Well, it wasn't last year but in Garrett and Ryan I trust.
He put 90% of kickoffs in the endzone? I missed that.

Care to explain why its nuts to not take Akers over Buehler right now?

IN DALLAS. Pay attention please.

And I was wrong. He's missed one. He's 20-21 all-time in Dallas under 55 yards.
