IRVING -- For the first time since Matt Cassel was traded to the Cowboys on Sept. 22, the backup quarterback will be on the team's active roster Sunday against New England.

Cassel said he didn't know if he'd be No. 2 or No. 3 on the depth chart, but it's likely that he'll be Brandon Weeden's backup.

"I felt like I had a great two weeks [of practice]," Cassel said. "It was a good lead in. I felt like I've learned a lot. I feel like I'm capable of running the offense at this point."

Cassel played four seasons in New England from 2005 to 2008, so he's somewhat familiar with their offensive system. That made him the perfect fit to play scout-team quarterback this week.

"A lot of familiar concepts on there," Cassel said. "Hopefully we gave them a good look."

Cassel pick up just may be the one that saves the season (hope I don't regret posting this).

Cassel immediately helps us prepare for Pats due to his knowledge of their system.

Jerry watches ole Hasselbeck continue to manage games and make the throws necessary to win ball games.

Cassel primed to come in for Weeden if he looks like he can't make the decisions and then throws necessary to give us a chance to win.

Think Cassel definitely shortens Weeden's leash a bit. Maybe comes in and helps us win. Trying to spin anything into positivity here...
