Cowboys beat writer David Moore answered questions in a chat Tuesday. Here are some highlights.

markm ... im intrigued by ron leary, anything that you have heard on him, im thinking with another year, he could be a help on the guard position, your thoughts?
David Moore: The Cowboys continue to be intrigued by Leary. It will be interesting to see what kind of push he makes this off-season.

Hopeful but I do not know why ... Is there any reason for us Cowboys fans to be excited about the 2013 Cowboys? They have done nothing that really makes any sense. Restructure Miles, Franchise Spencer, cut Sensabaugh....what about Free and Ratliff?
David Moore: Ratliff is absolutely in the mix going forward. Free could be. I think his fate could still depend on what happens in the draft. There is no need to make a move with him now. You would designate him as a June 1 cut if you do something - much like the team did with Terence Newman last year - to maximize cap room.

Chris L ... I found it interesting that L. Kiffin made the comments that M. Kiffins defense was too complex for the players. Do you see that being an issue?
David Moore: The younger Kiffin seems to take subtle - and not so subtle - shots at a lot of people. I guess there is no reason his father should be immune. As far as this system being too complex for the Cowboys to grasp quickly, I don't see it. I don't think comprehension will be a problem. That doesn't mean I forsee and seamless transition. I still don't see this being the ideal skill set of players to have this defense hit the ground without missing a beat. If it is, then this team did a horrible job of drafting for a 3-4 all these years.

several questions fielded about FA and Moore's consistently answered the Boys don't have the cap space to make any big name signings.

If a long term, cap friendly deals with Spenser and Romo are reached, and then Free is sent walking on June 1, is that really the case? Don't have specific figures but it seems to me they would have room to make at least one sexy FA signing, no?

Romo and Spencer deals could free up enough to bring in someone.
Free's contract impact probably will not help us right away. After the draft? Maybe. After June 1? almost certainly...but then it's probably too late.

is there a deadline when all teams must be within cap limits? Meaning, even if the Boys sign a FA before June 1 that brings them above the cap, knowing they'll be in compliance if/when Free is cut......is that a scenario that allows them to be a player in the FA market?

I am starting to think Dallas will go offense in the draft, defense be damn*#.

It seems the Cowboys are turning over every rock and stone looking for defensive line players; maybe Kiffin's goal is a solid line with quality rotation players? I think they will try and address safety somewhere in the draft -- possibly 2nd round -- but the overall focus will be o-line and play makers.

Since Romo is the key, all focus will be on protecting him and giving him solid weapons. Just my thought.

They have to be under the cap by (I believe) 4pm on Monday - the "Official" beginning of the 2013 NFL Season.
