Rod Marinelli has already gotten by with less than adequate defensive players for far too long already. He takes a lot of criticism on this website for problems that aren't his fault. It's well past time for this team to supply him with the exceptional and flexible athletes to work with, rather than those whose flaws must be disguised with "smoke and mirrors." The upcoming draft will have a plentiful supply of DL, DBs and safeties that this team desperately needs. Hopefully, some sufficiently gifted ones will be identified and drafted, at long last. Coaches are limited with limited talent.

Tillman: Can I say one thing, real quick? You guys are so blessed to have Rod Marinelli. That guy is the best coach, defensive coordinator in the National Football League. I've had some of my best seasons when he was my D-coordinator in Chicago. You guys, Cowboy nation, I'm telling y'all - you don't understand how much of a gem that this guy is. He is a steal. Y'all need to give that man all the money. He is so valuable to his team. He is just an awesome guy.

How much more talent does Marinelli need to get the defense to the next level?

Tillman: I want to say this in a respectful way because I think the Dallas Cowboys defense, they're good players, but they weren't household names. They were names people didn't know, and look how amazing they did.

Now, I think if he had just a sprinkle of talent, they probably could have taken it a little bit further ... Rod Marinelli reminds me of Bill Belichick. You look at Chris Hogan, the guy played lacrosse, and then he goes out and has a career day. I'm looking at Danny Amendola, Julian Edleman, these are just normal guys - 5'9", 5'10" - but they're quick. They're not fast. But they go out and they make plays for them. Rod Marinelli, he does that with defensive guys all the time, and I think he's done it in Dallas the last couple years ... So, give him just two or three more guys, athletic, fast, and he can do it all.

Former NFL defensive back turned FOX analyst Charles 'Peanut' Tillman recently joined the G-Bag Nation on KRLD-FM 105.3 The Fan. Here are some highlights.

As a former defensive guy, what would you be doing to prepare for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys next season?

Tillman: You go back to the drawing board, and it starts from Day 1. You look at the film, and how did Dak, or really the Cowboys, attack people? What were they successful at? And if you have the Cowboys on your schedule, that's what I would do if I were a D-coordinator ... Take the best thing that he's good at, whether it's throwing on the run or a boot or anything like that, I want to take that away from him and make him one dimensional.

You think teams will be able to do that?

Tillman: I definitely think it will be difficult. He's a young guy, but he's good. He's got God-given natural ability. And if he's this good in his rookie season, only time will tell how good he can be throughout.

Hopefully, he can forget what happened his rookie year. Now it's time to do it again. Hit that reset button. There's a saying called, 'Nothing fails like success.' Where you just continue to live on yesterday's success ... I don't know him, but he strikes me as being a very humble guy, turning down all the appearances. Hopefully, he'll continue to have the same work ethic, and I think he'll be successful in this league for a really long time.

Absolutely agree.
It's a miracle they were half as good as they were last year.

The Cowboys will continue to search for defense in the draft slowly building the defense like they
have the offense. They will continue to look for second and third tier defensive players in FA who can fill holes just
like last year. Stephen and McClay have already said as much. Besides Jerry thinks offense is the key to
good defense and offense puts butts in the seats. A little dab of defense will do at the ends of the 1st and 2nd
rounds of the draft.

On one of the most important pieces of the Dallas Cowboys ...

Been trying to make chicken salad out of chicken **** for years.

Give this man some real FA talent and 1st round draft pick talent.

If we can sprinkle a playmaker or two on this defense, I believe the Cowboys will be unbeatable. Provided we aren't undermined by coaching.

Yes.

The players were real good.

Imagine with a pass rush.

Then they can take chances = defensive turn over will come!

Exactly and by the time they have built thus defense (it took them 6+ years to build the offense) it will be time to start rebuilding that offense

Teams have been built up and played in and won SBs while we were still incompetently trying to build the offense

Not by overspending in FA. That is not the Patriot/Cowboy way my friend. We did pretty darn good this last draft. A couple of more
like that and we might just have a team that can compete in the Championships. Of course, we have to have an OC who doesn't flip
the script to winning just because we get behind by a couple of scores.

Please don't conflate what the patriots do with what the Cowboys do

The patriots gave the best HC in the league, an owner who does not meddle and the best QB in the league. They have accountability and discipline and don't accept divas on the team

Meanwhile we have none of that
