Garrett can talk about leadership and having the "right kind of guys" on the team... but then you have to back it up and hold people accountable when they undermine the team and culture. You have to practice what you preach if the culture is actually going to be authentic and not just become a collection of bumper sticker sentiments and T shirt slogans...

Signing guys like Hardy and Gregory, and tolerating guys like Ro simply show the real truth behind Garrett's philosophy: If you're talented, it doesn't matter if you're the right kind of guy.

i don't know how much garrett wanted or wants mcclain -- but the situation really screams for a clarification about what makes mcclain different than hardy. maybe mcclain's teammates and coaches like him aside from the absences and they didn't like hardy? maybe mcclain is quirky but he isn't a me-me-me guy?

LOL....SMH....I would bet the same ones whining about Ro missing voluntary workouts are the same ones that say the underwear practices do not show anything, so why bother...let's wait until TC...then they say let's wait until a real game....blah, blah, blah....But it is the off season, so it's expected.

I get tired as much as the next fan on this too.....but I am not going to say he or the team will suffer at this point either. Will just wait and see is all we can do.
However, as I posted before, get well soon #54.

Pretty much how it's always been with a lot of teams. If you have talent, you get away with more.

If those same teams want to create a condition where overall sound work habits and team chemistry are missing, then that's a great solution.

Has nothing to do with the complexity of the defense. When you are too out of shape to do your job that doesn't matter.

Who says he is out of shape...he can be in shape for all we know. None of us knows the situation or his conditioning at this point. And no one is in that great of football shape at this point...they haven't even put on pads yet. It's been 5 months since they had pads on.

So you are gonna completely ignore his past history and just assume that he is working hard and getting ready?

No not going to ignore it, and started to add that to my post, of recent history of this...however...
He came in in 2014, not have playing for almost what 2 years?
He came in last year after having arthroscopic knee surgery.
Of course he wasn't ready.
So I will see what happens this year before go off about it, which doesn't do any good anyway. But also I believe this could be his last year anyway. Unless he just nails it this year beyond what anyone expects. Which is a far out possibility at this point.

I think Ro reminds me of Marcus Dupree .. 2 country guys who like fishing and home cooking .

I think their hearts were not in football even as good as they are in their respected positions. ...two phenomenal talents though.

It's been said that ro is like engineer smart...he'll be fine.

Fine unless he knocks a doobie or two down while he's casting.

Unfortunately its Chemical Engineering.

To me McClain is the classic "shows up on Game Day" type. Lots of talent, lots of static but he answers the bell when the game starts. His contract is structured as mostly incentives and the roster depth at LB is structured to cover the position if he is out.

I look at anything Rolondo does over Hitchens as a bonus but which one is one the field isn't my biggest worry with this defense.

Players used to use trainincamp to get back into shape.. Not a worry for me.

McClain will have a prototypical McClain season.

Having both Ro and Lee out means nothing during OTA's. If anything it gives all these younger LB's a chance to compete and see what they have.

Ro is Charles Haley 2.0. He hates practice. But when Marinelli turns on the film he is as smart as Sean Lee. That's why we stick with him, well that and the fact he's 6'5 265 and can run sideline to sideline!!

And insult to Haley. Haley was a gamer and cared about the game.

so, nothing the first half and then play better from midseason on?

Probably.

McClain is what he is and the Cowboys value his service so much that they don't care what he does as long as he shows up on Sunday.

McClain was worthless the first half of the season because of suspension and being so out of shape upon his return. You can expect more of the same this year.

He had 8 tackles and an INT his first game last year, after missing all of TC and being suspended the 1st four games. I'll take that.

Talk about not knowing the pulse of the fanbase when writing your article.

Every Cowboys fan I know is pissed about Rolando missing OTAs. Haven't heard anybody say, "Eh, no big deal!"
