How to stop Gonzalez

Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips expects to use double-coverage on Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez as often as possible on Sunday. The Cowboys could get tips on this from New England.

The Patriots shut down Gonzalez this season with ``bracket'' coverage, which involves either placing one defender high and one defender low or a defender on his inside and a defender on his outside. The defense cuts off second moves and makes it harder for a receiver to go back for a ball.

In the loss to New England, Gonzalez had season-lows for catches with one and balls thrown to him with two. In Atlanta's other four games, all wins, he has caught 22-of-35 passes.

Pro Bowllinebacker DeMarcus Ware has a stress fracture in his left foot, but he does not think it will affect his play.

"I've been playing with it for three weeks and been doing good, so ..." Ware said.

Ware had his first two sacks of the season at Kansas City and has not missed any playing time because of his foot. He has been slowed by a neck injury and had his bell rung in the season opener.

Ware said he thinks he should be close to 100 percent in two weeks. He is rehabbing with a bone stimulator and has taken fewer practice reps.

"I've been practicing, doing what I needed to do and it's not been hindering me," Ware said.

Wade, see above.

From our 13-3 season I remember Little Bill saying they had to stop 82 - let 81 do what he's gonna do.

Maybe we need to take the same approach. Stop 88. Let 84 do what he's gonna do against Terrence and Jenkins. Let those two earn their money, if they can.

Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware said the stress fracture in his left foot is not bothering him too much. Ware said he feels the injury and its limited him some in practice.

"I had a sack in the Kansas City game, so I don't think it's hindering me or anything," Ware said. "I'm not worried about it. I have been playing with it for three weeks."

An MRI revealed the stress fracture and it was a relief for the Ware, who has two sacks this season. Ware said he will use a micro stem to treat the bone.

Use bracket coverage on an elite pass-catching target? You dont say!

I would hope we simply dont man up a safety on him. He'd eat us alive.

Our number one priority needs to be stop Michael Turner. Plain and simple. Do not allow him to get going.

Priority two needs to be take away the safety blanket in Tony Gonzalez. Force Ryan to throw outside and bring pressure to make him uncomfortable.

As another poster said, White may get his, but we need to stop Turner and Gonzalez if we want to win.

I think that is Micro Stim, as in stimulator. No biggie, but a journalist should know what he's writing about.

I like the idea of taking away Ryan's security blanket by bracketing Gonzalez. If Cowboys can stop the run too, it will force Ryan to hold the ball longer allowing our pass rush opportunities to tear him a new one and force turnovers.

Secondary has to do their part and play tight on WRs (so no easy hot route completions) and make tackles immediately after the catch.

Roddy White and Micheal J are pretty good WR's

They are, especially White. But Ryan is not throwing a lot of bombs to them, both guys are getting their yards after a short pass, or off play action.
