DMN is licking the bottom of the barrel

Here is the latest of DMN's riveting series:
"Who's the better Cowboy: Jay Ratliff or DeMarcus Ware?"

DMN writers, apparently with nothing creative to write about, are trying to provoke some inane competition between Cowboy players. And DMN puts you, the sports fan, in the voting booth. Witten versus Barber...Romo versus Spencer, etc. I've never even found it worthwhile enough to click to see the vote results.

I want to vomit at the mindlessness and worthlessness of this whole proposition. And I admit that I increasingly don't even bother to look at the Cowboy "journalism" at DMN. If that's all they've got...they are leagues behind Sturm's blog, Bloggingtheboys and a whole host of contributors on this forum. DMN as a paper has sunk to such a point that I won't miss the death of the newspaper (not this one anyway).

Anyone else feel the same way?

What's a 'DMN'

Just kidding. They are following what much of the national media already does, both inside and outside the print medium.

Their strategy is attracting readers via the TMZ/US Magazine route. How that strategy is affecting their bottom line is the real question. In reality, it's a dog-eat-dog world out there and they believe that fluff sells while substance often times must take a backseat.

Look at it this way. It's a Twitter world now and we're just living in it.

I'm not kidding when I say that DMN has some of the laziest writers in the country.

I swear that there are 10 posters on this site that could do much better than that group considering their resources and access. Almost every story breaks on this site first.

It's also funny how often they'll 'borrow' material from here and claim it as there own.

I'm no fan of the DMN. But the FWST is far worse. It's not even close. And I do not take issue with this. It's a fan's opinion thing, I don't see Ware or Ratliff getting upset over it. I still swear that for a good chunk of 2008, I felt Ratliff was better than Ware. Ratliff was THAT great. But then Ware just started dominating and was far better in '09. Although if Ratliff's elbows are healed and we can get Ware & Spencer off to a quicker start....look out.

Still, to my knowledge, no other forum was asked to do what they asked of us. The ironic thing is that 2 of our rival sites charge for their content, so they actually make money off of DMN traffic.

To this day I can't understand why they would demand free advertising and moderation.

I even gave Todd Archer a possible solution to present to DMN. Not a word back on it.

You are correct. I, for one, have refused to go to their web site since they did that, and really haven't missed it. I get all the info I need here and on a couple of other good sites.

I have a RSS feed of their Cowboys blog that when I click an "expand" button shows the content of what they wrote. (including showing pictures) I can click the link to go to their site and read it, but I refuse. I used to do this until they made that request to CZ.

The difference between The Washington Post (my favored site and paper for news) and DMN is astounding.

I haven't been keeping up with my RSS feeds, but I'll be doing that with the San Antonio Express News. I have family in SA and that paper's pretty decent.

I used to hit their Cowboys blog five or six times a day until they started blurbing even short articles like 'Terence Newman has a new hobby- click to read more'- then you'd click and the DMN would repeat the headline, then 'it's racquetball'. I check the Google Reader feed of their Cowboys blog every week or two, but it's a ghost town, both in quality and frequency. There are so many other good sources, why waste your time there?
