OXNARD, Calif. — Jason Garrett is clearly still frustrated with how the Cowboys played in Santa Clara. During his Tuesday press conference, the Cowboys head coach provided some of his shortest responses of training camp, never coming close to cracking a smile.
Jerry Jones was in a little different mood during a radio interview later in the day. The Cowboys owner and general manager seemed to be most excited about the play of rookie defensive end Randy Gregory. The second-round pick recorded a sack, forced two holding calls against the San Francisco defense and did a solid job of pushing back multiple left tackles.
“Boy, we’ve added some personnel that are just playing at a level beyond what I expected,” Jones said on the Ben and Skin show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “That Randy Gregory, as a rookie I know you shouldn’t do this, but I’m excited about him. He excites the huddle when he gets in it. He excites the team meeting room. He gets his coaches excited.”
Gregory, who also had a sack in his preseason debut against the Chargers, played 23 snaps against the 49ers.
