Impressions from the Cowboys win over Minnesota

Jean-Jacques Taylor E-mail News tips

* Bobby Carpenter, a former first-round pick, was on the field with 2:07 left in the fourth quarter.

* Wade should've decided 29 players weren't going to play. Losing Sam Hurd hurts, though he did prove he's slow as molasses.

* I really like Tashard Choice. He shows me something every week. That's all you can ask from a rookie.

* Felix Jones showcased his speed on a 13-yard catch-and-run, when he beat the linebacker to the perimeter, when it looked like there was no way he could do it. He's an explosive player.

* Tearrius George was a beast with two sacks, four quarterback hits and a pass deflection. You certainly aren't going to get him through waivers after that performance. The better move is to cut Erik Walden and try to get him on the practice squad.

* Richard Bartel wasn't bad, completing 28 of 41 passes for 233 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. ButI never get the impression that he's the guy I want leading my team for a few weeks, while the starter is out.

Hurd is slow as crap.I wish we would just get a true 2 and put Crayton at 3 again.

Pretty sure Hurd injured his ankle while running down the field, not when he was tackled. The reason the linebacker caught him from behind was most likely due to the fact he had already injured the ankle...

I swear, JJT is a toolbag.

I noticed that, too. It looked like he rolled his ankle and stumbled a little shortly before the guy caught him.

I couldn't tell if we was trying to make a move or if his cleats got caught in the turf or what but he sure took a couple of funny steps.

I agree he looks a lot sharper this preseason to me, I think he is going to have a very nice year.

I don't think Hurd is that slow that LB could have above average speed cuz hurd was burning everyone else.

Pretty tough to watch him on the field last night and come away critical of Sam Hurd.

Sam Hurd isn't a burner be he's a good football player, I'm sorry he got hurt. We need both him and Miles Austin or Austin Miles as some people refer to him as....

I also think Hurd injured the ankle on the stumble, not on the tackle.

Bartel was late on just about everyone of his throws. On the crossing routes you could see the receiver gains separation but by delaying the throw a second or two Bartel gave the defender time to catch up and bat the ball down.

I am pretty sure Hurd was injured on the tackle. That was a classic ankle turn tackle because the guy fell on his ankle and you could see the left ankle get turned sideways.

He is a below average #2 and a great #3. It's the classic example of someone being promoted one level above their competence. I hope he proves me wrong this year, because unfortunately there isn't another #2 receiver on this team (Maybe it's Witten?).

Statistically Crayton was one of the best # 2s in the league, even though hes on a team where Witten is technically the number 2 receiving option.

Crayton is going to have a solid year, big chip on his shoulder. Feels like he let people down - has shown in each preseason game that he is going to take advantage of team's keying in on 81 and 82.

Heres hoping Jerry goes and gets that vertical threat in 09 with Williams/Boldin/Draft Choice (Crabtree in a perfect world).

Isn't this more of an observation rather than an impression? :D

If Hurd doesn't come back before Austin (and he probably won't), he won't get the #3 receiver spot back.

Providing Austin comes back at full strength and not protecting the knee.

Not sure what to think, I guess it could have happened on the stumble, but with the way he was tackled, it was much more likely that it occurred then. But yes, he did look slow. The thing that I think back to is when he caught the TD pass against the Giants in the first game of last year. He turned upfield and had plenty of speed to take it to the house, and that was against a defensive back.

Not sure what to think, other than I'm not sure it was sensible playing a third receiver in this last preseason game when we are already depleted at the position. No matter, we've got plenty of receiving firepower to make it through until Austin and Hurd get healthy, just a matter of everyone else staying healthy in the mean time.
