Jean-Jacques Taylor/Columnist E-mail News tips
Here's what I've picked up from Monday and Wednesday in the Cowboys' lockerroom:
* Nice chat with Jason Garrett about the importance of Flozell Adams to the offense. Yes, he commits too many procedure penalties, but he plays one of the toughest positions in the NFL and does a good job.
Is he a star? No. But he's a lot better player than you think even as he moves into his mid-30s. I'd say he's the most underappreciated starter in the lineup. Most of you won't agree, but when he's gone you'll realize what a good player he was for a long time.
One more thing. As good as Leonard Davis is, he was an average left tackle, which is why he moved to guard.
* Gerald Sensabaugh said he made a conscious decision not to decapitate Michael Crayton on a third-quarter pass.
"If I would've hit him in his head, it would've cost me at least $7,500. Maybe, $15,000," he said.
That's exactly how the NFL suits want the players thinking. They want them thinking about the safety. Sensabaugh and Orlando Scandrick discussed this subject for at least 10 minutes.
Sensabaugh also admitted the illegal contact penalty that cost Mike Jenkins an interception. He was beaten on the play and figured the penalty was better than the touchdown.
"The funny thing is I tried to grab him, but missed," Sensabaugh said.
* Ken Hamlin, Marcus Spears, Kevin Ogletree and Miles Austin were engaged in a heated game of spades. Judging by how loud he was talking, Hamlin's team won.
* Marion Barber, as most of you know, usually doesn't have much to say publicly to the media. Just so you know, we talk to him quite a bit just not that much about the Cowboys. That said, he couldn't stop talking about his brother's touchdown against the Jets.
Dominique Barber returned a fumble for a touchdown against New York.
"Put that in the paper," he said. "I gotta give my little brother a shout out. Did you see the speed?"
* Roy Williams is still mad about the perception that the Cowboys' receivers would have a hard time replacing T.O.'s production.
I'm not sure why considering T.O. has been a perennial 1,000-yard receiver and none of the other players aside from Williams has come close to accomplishing that. Still, the more the Cowboys' receivers produce, the fewer questions they'll get asked.
