No instincts for Miles Austin

Yes, Miles Austin has plenty of speed. And he has pretty good hands.

But he must have no instincts. Otherwise he would've scored easily instead of being tackled after a 63-yard gain.

Austn, who ran a deep post route, caught the ball in stride about the 35 and would've scored if he had just kept angling toward the pylon. Instead, he ran in a straight line and was tackled at the 3.

It didn't matter because Marion Barber scored two plays later, but details are often the difference between winning and losing a championship.

Yes, Miles Austin is still learning the game

I can't, for the life of me, figure out why some of you guys are so sensitive.

Did I commend Miles Austin for making a nice 63-yard catch? Yup. Did I say he showed no instincts by running in a straight line, so the defender could tackle him instead of continuing to run on an angle toward the pylon that would've allowed him to score easily? Sure did.

Some of you seem to think that was an offensive statement.

Too bad. Get over it.

It was a fact.

An instinctive player - Felix Jones comes to mind - would have taken the proper angle into the end zone. This is not the end of the world. Ray Sherman will talk to him about it. Jason Garrett will talk to him about it.

His teammates will tease him about it for the rest of the season. So what's the problem?

Austin played small-college football at Monmouth. He's still learning the nuances of the game. He says it all of the time.

This is just one more thing he'll learn. He won't make the same mistake again.

Hr probably was suprised he caught it and was is too much disbelief that he didnt really know what to do when he had it...

He actually tripped a bit either just before or just after the catch. He didn't have a chance to make it to the endzone after that, as the defender was already at top speed.

JJT is such an idiot.

Do you think being a very young player and, more importantly, coming right off a knee injury that isn't 100% might have had something to do with it?

He had chance even after stumbling a little. Maybe just a small chance if he kept angling toward the pylon, but still a chance. I agree that he probably will learn from that play. The important part is he got open and caught the ball. That is a big step up from his last two seasons and good to see.

He MIGHT have had a small chance. If he runs that angle, he obviously has to travel a greater distance and the guy was gaining on him very fast (because of the trip). I doubt he'd made it either way.

A writer who has to come out and defend his little blog entry says it all. :lmao2:

JJT is a hack and then some.

Offensive? WHO CARES if people thought it was offensive.

JJT needs to get over himself and stop wearing his feelings on his shoulders.

Writers get it from all sides - sadly he hasn't figured that out.

He wants to come out and tell US how its done.

Riiiight.

MBIII has paid all the WR's off.

They get tackled inside the three so he gets the TD.

OK, JJ. Let Romo throw you the ball. In a nationally televised game.
With fleet defenders on your back. Let's see you catch the ball in that awkward position and run it in all the way. Easy, right?

Austin made a terrific catch.
JJ just made a fool of himself.

His first big catch in a big game.. He was just jacked to catch it and turned and ran and ran. Next time he'll be more used to it and he'll take a look back and see where he needs to run. It's not really an instinct thing just something someone will tell him to do next time.

Chances are if he takes an angle toward the endzone he makes it but it was still a big play that the Cowboys needed and I was just glad to see Austin make an impact for us and hope he continues making an impact.

Based on JJT's appearance, I wonder where his knowledge of football insticts is derived from?

His Rerun shorts he was wearing on Hard Knocks didnt strike ma as Mr. Athletic.

Yeah I thought the same thing.

My first reaction was to run to the pylon... but most WR's after a catch like that run straight to endzone.

Meh... its nitpicking on JJT's part.
