Tony Curtis missed that block.

This is like the 3rd person I've seen wrongly blamed for this. Is the Arizona blocked punt going to be the new "Who Shot JR/Kennedy"?

Burnett is not an every down player, that is the biggest factor. We really need to find some quality LB depth in the draft though.

True that. I would have cut Curtis on the spot. Then there would have been no doubt.

The Cowboys had 3 spots on the entire football team where the opening day starter was not clearly defined. Those spots where DE, SS and ILB. At least at DE and SS we have decent options that are currently on the roster and under contract. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more fire power at DE, But I do belive that Hatcher and Bowen are servicable players. We are not completely pleased with Roy Williams, however he is not the worst saftey in the NFL. I don't think he is horrible like others think. I just question his pay vs his production. I think we could waite until after the rookie mini-camp to cut Roy. By doing this we can see if the rookie saftey prospects look able before we make a final decision on Roy. So we then can effectively use Roy Williams as a hedge against our other potential options. All that being said, We didn't have other options under contract at ILB. Obviously the coaches don't view Carpenter as a viable option. Brooking is only getting 6 Million over 3 years. We actually did offer Burnett before he reached UFA. He wanted to test the market, thats fine I doubt he would have taken 6 Mill over 3yrs. If we had waited on Burnett we probably would have lost Brooking, and would have had to over pay for Burnett. The longer free agency goes on , the fewer options there will be. Thats the way the NFL works. Besides Brooking is only insurance. We can still draft a ILB and let him have a shot at winning the job. I doubt a rookie can beat him out unless its a very high pick ie. top 20 level.

What will happen is this: Brooking will start this year, we will draft a rookie to develope and play behind him in 2009. That rookie will compete to start in year 2 and Brooking will slide to the #3 ILB position in 2010, and we will release him after 2 years of service and we wont have much dead $$$ for Brooking in 2011. In other words he is a classic stop gap signee. He knows the system, he is very experienced in wade's scheme unlike Zach Thomas, and he seens genuinely humble to have this operatunity. I like the deal and it made alot of sense. We just could afford to get out of this weekend without some opening day option at ILB under contract.

I like hte fact that he nad Phillips are experienced with one another (i.e. trust factor), and that Brooking brings leadership skills to the defense as the most important position in the 3-4 D (i.e. LB).

Wow, bad grammar, faulty logic and misinformation, all wrapped into one. I take it JJT wasn't thinking when he wrote that. But at least he spelled everything correctly.
LOL. Just another day at the office for JJT.

My first thought on reading this strange article: JJT is sore that he's losing one of his best sources.
