I'm in my office at the DMN grooving to Maxwell and watching First Take. Let's do this thang!!

[Comment From Donavon McFlabb]
JJT, There are parts of your latest column I agree with and parts I disagree with. First, I do agree that Romo needs to shape up desperately and not throw three interceptions. I agree that the Cowboys are not deserving of excuses. I agree the defense has been a joke. What I disagree with is that the loss is pathetic. Considering the Cowboys were winning until the clock reached zero to a Super Bowl favorite even though the defense didn't show up and Romo threw three picks is anything but pathetic. A lost opportunity? Yes. But not pathetic.
11:03
Glad to see someone other than my family members are reading...lol...All my references were really to the performance - not the loss itself. The performance of the Cowboys was indeed ridiculous, raggedy and pathetic. You know I'm right...lol

Where was Marty B and the creative "genius" of Garrett? Or is Eli really that good?
11:05
can you really rip Jason Garrett, when the offense is averaging 32.5 points and 400 yards a game? I don't think so. When he told you the offense was going to spread the ball around, it meant there were going to be games when Roy Williams catches 10 for 135 and a touchdown and games where he was 2 for 33. As long as the offense is scoring points, you have to accept that.
11:05
[Comment From josh]
I know romo stunk it up and will get most of blame but how much blame would you put on defense? Because I think both romo and defense share the blame.
11:07
I would put a lot of blame on the defense becasue as poorly as Romo played, here's the bottom line: Dallas 31-30 with 3:40 left. Somebody - anybody - on defense needed to step up and make a play. No one did. So they lost.
11:08
I'm not sure what you're talking about, I picked 9-7 and no playoffs. It has only been two games, let's see what happens the next three weeks before we say everyone stinks. Frankly, y'all are a lot more negative than me.
11:08
[Comment From Patrick]
I feel one of the biggest holes in this 3-4 defense is the lack of a true plugger at nose. Ratliff would be great in a 4-3 or as an end, but I feel
11:11
Patrick, you make a really good point. ratliff is a terrific player, but because he's only 305 pounds, he's undersized. The Cowboys slant him quite a bit. When he slants into the play, he's as disruptive as they come. When he slants the other way, he's out of position and useless. The reason most teams like 330 or 340 pound nose guards is because they can stand up to the double team, see the play and then try to shed the blockers and make the tackle. They don;t have to slant.
11:11

why do you call the loss laughable

Has Wade overrated his defensive personal and especially his cornerbacks? Mr. Fix It said he would be able to have more exotic blitzs because of the DB s he has; all i saw was a very poor showing from a guy who trumpets himself as a defensive guru with decades of defensive coordinating experience.
11:14
I don't think wade has done a good job coaching. Think about it, after the first week he said the Cowboys did a poor job of run blitzing becasue they didn't work on it in practice. Yesterday, he said the players didn;t understand the defensive concepts. What the heck is the off-season for? Didn't they spend the summer in OTAs, minicamps and training camp? Isn;t that where you're supposed to work on that stuff? This isn't the business for on the job training. You only have 16 games. Hmmmm, that sounds like a good column. Maybe, I'll write for tomorrow.
11:14
[Comment From Michael Johnson]
Tell me, why did the Cowboys abandon the run when the passing game was nearly non-existent?
11:19
I assume you're talking about the awful interception Romo threw late in the third quarter with Dallas leading, 24-20. That call bothers you guys and some of my friends more than it bothers me. Garrett can't run the ball every play. I'm sure teh Cowboys had run the ball so well that Garrett figured the Giants would be playing the run, which might open up some passing lanes. I'm sure Garrett didn't think Romo would throw a ball up for grtabs into double coverage.
11:19
[Comment From mlangan]
what do you think of igor olshansky ? i thinks he horible, just watch the film.san diego did 'n't want him .
11:20
He's a run-stopper. He's never going to be a glamour guy. The Cowboys did a good job, for the most part, against the run this week. It's too early for me to tell about him. So many of you want concrete answers right now, but it's too early. trust me, it will all be revealed soon.
11:21
[Comment From Raymond]
If Wade def keeps at it's current pace, do you think Wade will be unemployed before the season is over or will Jerry wait until after the season
11:21
Philosophically, Jerry doesn't believe interim coaches work. If he makes a coachign change, it will be after the season.
11:21
[Comment From Playmaker]
Terrence Newman has to be the most overrated corner in football. No team is scared of him. He's regularly beaten by second and third receivers. Very rarely makes interceptions. He is just a guy. Other than D Ware, the defense is just a bunch of guys. No playmakers.
11:22
Newman has not been good the first two weeks of the season. He must be better, if the Cowboys are going to have any chance to be a good defense. I wouldn't say he's the most overrated player, but he's moving rapidly in that direction.
11:23
[Comment From dallazfan1]
Why did Jerry pass on the opportunities to get Ray Lewis, a good coach, Lito Shephard and Brian Dawkins? He can't seem to understand that you have to get BETTER to be BETTER.
11:24
Let's keep it real, Ray LLewis was never ever leaving Baltimore. You don;t pay age in free agency, which is why he didn;t want Dawkins. He liked his corners and that's why he didn't want Sheppard, who's just a guy.
11:24
[Comment From Raymond]
Do you think that Garrett is trying to spreaad the ball to much?
11:25
You guys can't have it both ways. You can;t say spread the ball around - but let's not spread it too much. The only thing wrong with the offense on Sunday was Tony Romo, who was awful. Everything else worked pretty well.
11:25
[Comment From Todd]
Do you think there is anyone out there (free agents) that can help our defense this year? I see pressure, but not having any sacks in 2 games is wild.
11:25
Nope. Anybody who's any good would already be with some team.
11:25
[Comment From Mike]
JJT, If Wade is canned after this year, who do you think will be the front runner for the coaching job. How about John Fox or Jack Del Rio for a defensive Cord. job?
11:26
If those guys are available, it means their teams had poor years and they were fired. Is that what you really want? My guess: Mike Shanahan.
11:26
[Comment From Randy]
Is it me, or is there no reason to watch the NBA until May? There are six good teams that will compete for the title. I love the Mavs, but I may just wait for LeBron to meet Kobe in the finals. Too cynical?
11:27
I think it's fun to watch how teams develop during the course of the year. If you're a Mavs fan, it will be interesting to see how Josh Howard plays at the 2 and how Shawn Marion and Jason Kidd work together. I like the NBA season
11:27
[Comment From dallazfan1]
JJT, BTW, ignore your critics. You say what needs to be said. Sometimes the truth hurts, but I am a fan who believes in looking at the facts. I do not drink the Jerry juice.

How do you think skip would reply after predicting cowboys would win? Good job predicting giants win.
11:29
Skip would say the Cowboys did win the game, they just lost it on the scoreboard because of the turnvovers. As I told Skip, I picked the Giants to win because I thought it would be a close game and the Cowboys were more prone to make a mistake than the Giants.

Romo didn't play well, but the secondary missed tackles all night long! Any solutions in sight? Roy Williams' down field blocking was super...
11:32
For now, I'm going to say Sunday's poor tackling was an aberration. Orlando Scandrick is a much better tackler than he displayed on Sunday. He couldn;t play that poorly again, if he tried. I told Roy after the game that I was really impressed with the physical nature of his blocking. He really has been outstanding.

JJT, would you trade Roy Williams for Brandon Marshall (baggage and all)? Seems like Marshall would bring dimensions Roy doesn't.
11:38
Not now. it'd be just like last year when you have a receiver trying to learn a new offense and find a rhythm with the QB. We saw how well it worked with Roy. Why would you want to do that again?
11:38
[Comment From John]
Don't you think it is poetic justice that Jerry's team loses Sunday after putting on that tacky opening celebration? Women in cages dancing? Video comparisons with the Taj Mahal? Just down right tacky.

Credit for drafting a kicker. But why not just let him hit deep everytime? The directional kicks don't seem to get covered so well. And is it me or is Felix Jones not running full speed on kickoff returns. He looked slow getting to full speed on Sunday.
11:41
I'm not sure he can get it to the end zone every time. No kicker in the NFL does that. Sometimes, Felix might be looking for a hole to open before accelerating through it. Next time I see him or Joe D, I'll ask.

11:43
Let's give him at least half a season, but right now he's struggling. The Cowboys drafted him to be a pass-rusher - not a run-stopper. The 3-4 defense is all about the outside linebackers. If he can't be a difference-maker, then Ware is going to get killed this season because teams will send three guys at him, knowing Spencer can't beat one-on-one blocking.
11:44
[Comment From JB]
Is it possible this is just the best Tony Romo will ever be?
11:45
Let's see what happens with Romo over the course of a season. I still think he's a good quarterback and a guy who can win in the playoffs, but he has to do it. He has to be a big-time player in a big-time game - he's done it before - on a consistent basis for the chatter to stop.
