OXNARD, Calif. – Rookie offensive lineman La’el Collins had noticeable swelling above and below his right eye after Thursday’s preseason opener. But he didn’t appear to be in any pain. He actually never stopped smiling while talking about it.

The undrafted rookie the Cowboys signed shortly after the draft was just happy to be playing football.

“You live every day to make that dream come true, and just to be out there is a dream come true,” Collins said. “I was just, I was locked in. I was ready to roll. It was just a great opportunity to be out there and have fun.”

Collins entered the game at left guard on the Cowboys second series and played throughout the first half. On the Cowboys’ lone touchdown, a five-yard Gus Johnson run, it was actually Collins providing the highlight with two impressive blocks.

He looked like a vet on Gus Johnsons TD run. It was his block of two guys that opened the hole for Gus.

He's taking Learys job sooner rather than later, night and day difference in raw ability IMO

The play that called back for a Weems hold, Collins was burying a guy 10'yards downfield. He's a beast

The block is in the video in the article below. Holy moly did he ever pancake that guy

No...

If you watch them closely at all you will see that its game over when Leary gets his hands on you. Not so much with Collins.

I like Collins but he looks like he needs a year in the weight room before he is ready to take anyones job as a guard.

Now tackle is a different story.. I think he could probably help us there now.

Leary is, was, and will continue to be underrated by many. He is a very very good run blocker. Dude's a tank.

Collins is a different caliber athlete the way he moves. Leary has and always has had issues readjusting, he's slow footed. It was clear as day to see that difference last night.

I agree that Collins moves better but it ends right there. Leary is a punisher. If you have a 325 pound beast in front of Leary then its not a big deal. If you have a small guy in front of Leary then they can't match up.

Leary is a tank. Collins needs to get that strength up. He's not on Learys level.

Just curious where you came away with that conclusion? Certainly not last night, he buried folk.

Watching him in practice..

I agree he looked good yesterday. I think he's a stud. Don't get me wrong.

Im just extremely high on Ronald Leary and everytime I watch the endzone cameras he stands out among guys that get all the accolades.

It looks like he already has the strength to play in the NFL, just work on the feet and hands and he'll be a stud guard in no time.
