Tim MacMahon

I know a lot of you fine folks have your fingers crossed that WR Roy Williams will come home to Texas via a trade. Don't count on it, according to Detroit coach Rod Marinelli.

From the Detroit News:
Marinelli was forceful in answering when asked if Williams will be traded. "No," Marinelli said. "I know the rumors that are out. Those two guys together, I want to see those guys where they can really impact a game. They are special.

"They've got to have, and they will have, great years for us. We have to ensure they have great years. Those are explosive weapons.

"Not many people have two guys like that on a team. We've got to do everything we can do to protect our quarterback -- get the ball to those two big guys. I'm very confident he's (Williams) here. Very confident."
Of course, Marinell might just be doing his part to make sure the Lions get good value for Williams, who sure would be a fine fit opposite T.O.

If Marinelli is being honest here, i will be a little disappointed for not having a shot at Roy Williams.

However, i'm pretty high on D.J. Hackett from Seattle. If he hits the market i hope Dallas looks at him closely. When he is healthy, i believe it was a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for a lot of games last year, he nice speed and very good hands. He can line up on the other side of TO and keep defenses very honest. He also will not cost as much as some of the other names that have been thrown out there, i.e., Fitz, Ocho Cino, etc....

what do yall think?

Tells me a deal for him is more likely near the trade deadline of next season than before the Draft. They probably are hopeful that they can re-sign him before then. If they can't they might opt to move him at the deadline. I don't think they can tie up that much money in WR and eventually they will have to move him. Might leave us out of the loop. Might make us more likely to do a deal. You never know.

I would be nice but it looks like Dallas might just have to wait until they can sign him next offseason. hes going to texas.

I suppose they could franchise him but then they have two WRs making Top dollar. Just would make a whole lot of sense unless they did it knowing they were going to trade him.

Be smart Marinelli. He doesn't want to play in detroit and even though hes a darn good player, nobody gets max production from a homesick, looking to exit player.

Take #28 overall and grab yourself another WR. He won't be on Roys level but it will save you a bunch of money and you get to have two top prospects at that position.

I think Hackett or Walker if his knee's healthy would be a great addition, and neither of them would be as expensive as Ocho or Williams. And if Jerry is looking to trade for Deangelo Hall then he's going to have to go slightly cheaper when looking to shore up the 2nd WR spot.

I keep thinking about building for both now and the future, which why a guy like Roy Williams makes so much sense. If not him, maybe somone like Hacket? But signing Moss means one thing.....win it all now. Two year window tops, balls to the walls.....If that's what Jerry wants to do fine-extend TO, save cap room. Romo could restructure to save cap room. Go for it.....not what I had in mind, but I understand the thought process....

BTW, I don't think it will happen (moss), but it would be fund to watch for a couple yrs.

Moss isn't coming to Dallas. I remember several Eagles fans wanting the same thing back when TO was with the Eagles and it never happened and never will because you can't have two #1 wide receivers on the same team, that's 1 too many egos.

Stallworth could be an option as well. The Patriots declined to give him his roster bonus, so he'll be hitting the open market February 29th. I know some of you aren't all that interested in him, but I think he could be a solid #2...and perhaps not that expensive.

I don't know that much about Stallworth, except that he may have hamstring issues because he had problems with his hamstring in Philly and I think I recall he had the same problem down in New Orleans. Also, wasn't there minimal interest in him last year, and that's why he agreed to the New England deal knowing he'd only see the 1 yr value of it?

Before or after you put on clean underwear?

They say it isn't possible to do both 1 and 2 at the same time... I know I would prove that theory wrong...

Instead of wishful thinking about Williams, why not wishfully think about Fitzgerald - a better player who might also leave his present team?

Because that one is an impossible dream.
