SportsDay's Jon Machota answered questions in a chat Thursday. Here are some highlights.
Question: Do you get the sense that everyone is on board with Randle again? Was the spat with Bryant, Witten short-lived?
Jon Machota: I think the entire Cowboys organization is cautiously optimistic with Joseph Randle. He's been leading drills and appearing in every way to be the team's lead back. Now, I don't think he will get the workload that Murray did last year, but I think he's the clear cut starter at this point. And there doesn't appear to be any lingering problems between Dez and Randle.
Question: Who's returning kicks these days?
Jon Machota: When the team has been at Valley Ranch during offseason workouts, they've been working on punts. While at the stadium the last two days, it's been kickoffs. Kickoffs: Darren McFadden, Lucky Whitehead, Lance Dunbar, Nick Harwell. Punts: Cole Beasley, Dunbar, Whitehead, Lache Seastrunk and Harwell.
Question: Is there a noticeable difference, other than the scenery, between Valley Ranch practice and AT&T Stadium practice?
Jon Machota: I don't think there's been a huge difference. I think the rookies have liked the last two days being at the stadium because they haven't played there yet. Well, actually, the veterans are probably cool with the indoor temperatures too. Yep, indoor at the stadium is definitely better.
Question: Is a visit from Art Briles a distraction? Practice appears to be a country club.
Jon Machota: Not at all. Coach Briles was standing between the two practice fields just being a spectator. It wasn't like he was trying to coach or bother players in the middle of drills. And I really think Jason Garrett likes having him around and trusts his advice. I think it's a good thing.
Question: So Sean Lee survived minicamp unscathed?
Jon Machota: He did. Looked good too. Rod Marinelli has mentioned that there's still some rust, but I think he's been moving around really well. I'm very interested to see how he's used in training camp. I think they ease him in. They know what they'll get from Lee on Sundays.
